disappointed
I don't know why but it reminds me of matcha..has an earthy green tea flavour and does not taste like pistachio in my opinion. Also not very sweet.

Tastes Great.....Too Expensive!!!
Love the taste of all the Van Leeuwen Ice Creams but at $7.39 (as of August 6, 2025) it’s way too expensive!!! I would only buy when they’re having a sale like “2 for $10” otherwise I’m skipping it and replacing with Häagen-Daz until the next discount sale.

Real pistachio icecream that doesn't taste like almond
If you cannot tell the differences between almond paste and pistachio... then this is not for you. If you're too used to the general american pistachio products which taste purely like the bitter almond paste (or maybe you're not even aware) then you'd be very confused about this ice cream's flavor. Do yourself a favor and try pistachio cream from Sicily and you'll realize your life has been a lie. This ice cream tastes EXACLY like high-quality pistachio cream. Truly the best pistachio ice cream that I've ever tried, even richer than Eataly's pistachio gelato because of the thicker texture and the perfect balance of salt and sweetness. I'm sorry for the ones that say they cannot taste pistachio at all, because this is the real pistachio taste and the neon green "pistachio" ice cream that most other brands have are just almond flavored.

Rich, creamy and delicious
I looked everywhere for an ice cream with REAL and simple ingrediants I can pronounce. I am really impressed with this ice cream! Pistachio ice cream is one of my favorites anyway, and I really enjoy the richness, thickness and high quality ingrediants in this particular flavor. Bonus: it's got less sugar than most of the other ice creams I looked at, too. This is definitely a grown up, sophisticated ice cream. Maybe not for everyone, but I will definitely get it again.

Not for me
Van Leeuwen is some really good ice cream. I've tried other flavors like cookie & cream and peanut butter brownie honeycomb, which I liked, but unfortunately, this flavor is not one of them. I had my mom try it & she said it tastes salty. It wasn't salty to me. I don't think it tastes like pistachio. It's not terrible, but it's also not great. If you're looking for a sweet treat, skip this flavor. I will not be buying this again.

I scream for ice cream
Some years ago while traveling in Rome and Florence I decided I needed to choose a flavor of gelato that I would use to compare the delightful gelaterias throughout Italy. That flavor is pistachio. The pistachio from Brontë Sicily almost being in a class by itself. You’ll see the better gelaterias promote their pistachio as being from Brontë. So the other day I purchased the Van Leeuwen pistachio (admittedly on sale) just to compare and contrast. Whether the Bronte pistachio is the Sicilian pistachio in this ice cream is unknown to me but this pistachio ice cream is terrific. It is far and away the tastiest commercial pistachio I’ve had here or anywhere. Now that’s not to say it’s better than say the pistachio at Otaleg in Trastevere (Rome), one of my all time favs, but it is awfully awfully good and a reminder of what commercial ice cream could achieve if done with thoughtfulness, pure ingredients and a commitment to excellence.

Best pistachio ice cream!
Surprised to see people hating this… it’s the best pistachio store bought ice cream I’ve found in the US! If you compare this with the gelato at Eataly the only difference is the texture since this one uses heavy cream so it’s denser and slightly saltier, but it’s a legit pure pistachio taste for sure. If you’re looking for an authentic pistachio flavor highly recommend! It’s exactly the same intense pistachio taste as the pistachio cream from Italy. If you’re looking for those artificial bright green pistachio flavor then I guess this might not be what you’re looking for.

Not Pistachio
Disappointing. Doesn't taste like much of anything. One of the dullest, most flavorless ice creams I've ever eaten. Pretty packaging, but that's the best I can say for it.
