Lawn care prof. Opinion
I'm a landscaper who absolutely hates buying big box products from big box stores because they are usually overpriced junk in a shiny package. However, with no options left after trying all the "shade tolerant" blends that my landscape supply store caries to no avail. I decided to try to big blue home improvement store and buy this product. I aerated the lawn on a Wednesday and had no rain but had temp irrigation running on the area for 2 hours every morning, then finally got a good soaking rain on day 7 after seeding. On day 9 I took this photo. Day 9!!! Obviously I don't know the longevity and tolerance of this sprout but the germination time is astounding. As of now I highly recommend.

Trusted brand, Slope and Shade
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I know shade grass is difficult to grow, but I have seen little to grow after several weeks and 2 seedings. I have enough seed left to attempt a third seeding so I expect it will be more different. I have used "regular Sun" Rebel with no issues on sunny areas for years.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is over a month progression. We first prepped the grass by using a tool to open the dirt all over the lawn and aerate. We put the grass seed into a manual seeding tool to release and disperse evenly over the lawn, we put down seeds and then bought a topper mix and covered it all with the topper. Within a week we started to see grass sprout up in areas, but mostly the shady areas. My lawn has shade and sun. It's not a very large lawn though, so i figured it was enough seed using one bag but i think i need to add more bags of seed because the grasses are not compact and there are spaces between. What i notice most is the densest grass is the shady areas, so i will have to get another grass seed for the sunny areas. In the sunny areas not much grass has grown. Overall I am happy to have received this product to test, and i like that it did fill in those shady spots that always end up bare. I'm glad i now know how to do this annually to keep a nice lawn for summer.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm planting this in May in KY which is well past when I should be for this grass seed but I have had good success with the first seeding sprouting and continuing to grow. In deep shade, no less! Also, in areas that get a little sun during the day but not much. The ground has been moist without me having to do much the first few days (not ideal for seed but it was not in a place where it was going to runoff). I still have some of this left and will do a second spread of it soon. If what has sprouted just as of now continues to thrive, I will buy more for the fall. Honestly I don't know why anyone would have issues with this seed. I did nothing to prepare the ground, which was sandy, deeply shady, bare areas.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this product for free to try out, and here's my honest take: At first, nothing happened. My yard gets a ton of direct sun, and I didn't see any new grass. I was ready to call it a fail-but then I added a shade cloth and boom, some green started popping up. Compared to other seeds I've used, this one seems solid if you give it the right conditions. It's not magic, but it does the job with a little help. Would I buy it? Yeah, I'd try it again now that I know what it needs. Would I recommend it? Sure, but only if you're down to be patient and maybe throw up some shade. TL;DR: Needs love and shade, but it works.

Product failed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product did not work for us. We planted it in 2 different places in shade and no grass ever came up. Aerated the soil and planted according to the directions. Very disappointed and will not be purchasing this product or recommending sing to any family or friends

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a large tree that shades an area of my lawn. Every year, the grass there dies. I liberally spread this grass seed over the bald areas and didn't even cover them with topper or rake them in. I thought I'd make it the hardest test case possible! Within two weeks, the grass had sprouted and thickened substantially. I can still see some ungerminated seeds, but that's because I didn't plant them properly. All in all, I'd use this again for those shady bald spots! I'd say it had a 70% germination rate even without me doing ANY of the right things! If I had used it right, it'd be higher.

I followed all directions and planted in an area that I have previously tried to grow grass. I was very skeptical as I had tried 4 different brands and types of grass in this area and was unsuccessful. It has now been 30 days since planting Pennington Rebels Shady Lawn Grass Seed Mix and it has grown! It is a bit sparse (I followed all directions for planting) but seems to be slowly filling in. I highly recommend giving this product a try if you have a shady, hard to grow area.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Rebels shady lawn seed was used to try and get grass in a shady spot again. I would say that i did get some sprouting but it wasn't consistent so it looked patchy. I am going to add more seed to the patchy areas and see if it takes.

Planted and watered the Pennington Rebels Shady Lawn Grass Seed Mix as directed in our shady spots and in about 9 days saw it start to sprout up. Requires no special skill. Just read the directions and follow them. Seems like the grass is going to take and our shady spots will be no more!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pennington sent me "The Rebels Premium Grass Seed" free sample through the BzzAgent sampling program. I used it to reseed a section of my lawn that was shady and bare. After a few weeks of watering it three times a day it started to sprout. It's starting to look really nice and healthy. I believe that I should have spread the seed thicker than I applied but the sample was only three pounds. What I put down did germinate and grow but is a little sparse. It should begin to spread and thicken over time. Overall, this is a good product for reseeding your lawn and I plan on buying more to thicken it up.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] an extremely cool company and their products are also very high quality everything arrived very well packed nothing was opened or scattered anywhere also extraordinary quality everything was very cool made and thought out with packaging and design the packaging is not too small an extremely cool size for our landscape it fit perfectly we sowed our grass and after a while we saw unreal results how the grass started to break through the ground very, very abundantly and it was very thick and of a very beautiful color.

I received this product through BzzAgent, and honestly, I didn't expect much because our lawn has been nearly impossible to grow grass on for over 22 years. The property used to be a concrete business, so the ground is packed with rocks and debris-definitely not ideal for grass or plants. We've tried seeding, soil treatments, and even sod in the past, but nothing ever seemed to take. Then I applied this product, and within just one week, I started to see noticeable changes. The grass began filling in spots that have been bare for decades. It was thicker, greener, and looked much healthier overall. I didn't even have to over-apply it just followed the directions, and the results really spoke for themselves. If you've been struggling with bad soil or rocky, compacted areas like we have, I'd absolutely recommend giving this a try. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We started noticing seedlings about 14 days after spreading it with our handheld spreader made for an easy application. We will definitely be buying more of this product for the other places in our years that won't grow. We didn't notice any downside to this product as it did exactly what we wanted it to do
