This is one of the best sets I’ve ever done. But I had a problem with the build. I assembled it very carefully as I’ve done several complicated sets previously. However, at the end I could not get the sound brick to play. I called LEGO and while super friendly, they were not really able to solve the problem. I knew where the problem was located but the only way to get to it was to basically disassemble the entire thing. I did that, reassembled it and it still did not work. Calle LEGO again, and was told to try using the LEGO builder app. Again, very nice and helpful people! I took it apart for the second time, reassembled using the book and the builder app at the same time. Again it didn’t work. And weirdly, with the set turned to “off” the tuning needle moved across the whole channel. In the “on” position, it only moved about 1/2”. The 2 people I spoke with could not confirm if that was normal. Also, No one at LEGO mentioned that the tuning knob has to be turned with a lot of pressure. I watched a you tube video to find this out. Haven’t tried it yet as I’m not home. I’m hoping this solves the problem as I’m looking at taking it apart yet again. Neither person at LEGO had experience with building this set. If it doesn’t work, I’m at a loss as to what to do. Again, I think this is about the coolest set ever. I do highly recommend it. No one else seems to have a this problem. I’m persistent though. Will update if I figure it out.
Almost perfect

Looks fantastic and the feeling of turning knobs is great, Unfortunately, the sound brick is too difficult to trigger. It requires to much force on the knob and eventually a gear inside will pop out of its place. Putting the gear back in place requires to disassemble a big part of the set and is a pain to do.
Yikes!

Spent hours on it and quadruple checked all steps and somehow the sound block still would not get triggered. Tried troubleshooting for hours. Radio ended up crumbling apart mid workshop. What a hassle for mediocre sounds. Will not even be worrying about the sound when I rebuild.

This is the first time I've felt the need to review a Lego set. I bought this for my wife for Christmas and she just got around to building it in late June. Looks? Great, nice color scheme and size. Structure and design? The worst Lego set we've ever seen. Worse than the back & top of the VW van if you know that set. Several pieces pop off as they are held by 1 stud when it should be 2 or even 4. The frame twists if you pick it up by the handle. The on/off switch works part of the time. You have to break the back panel off to get your phone in or out. The clamp holding the phone inside is nice. We are going to take a lot apart and Technic a bunch of structure into it and make a hinged back panel. Just a heads up to anyone who things this will be great right out of the box.

WOW! Love this build. A few unexpected small challenges and I was impressed I got it all right. The instructions were very specific step by step. I was a afraid to get the mechanics wrong, but the radio sound worked! Putting in the sound block was a bit challenging and at first it didn't seem to work. But it did. And the cel phone holder, super!

My daughter received this as a birthday gift (not from me), and I was really excited for her about it. As a professional engineer myself with teenage daughters thinking about careers, possibly in STEM, I think it is such a disappointing missed opportunity by Lego that this isn't a functional radio (even a retro FM/AM one) or bluetooth speaker, but just plays a few naff pre-recorded samples. Furthermore, apart from some small print, this isn't at all clear from the marketing.
Awesome

Great build and I enjoy that its interactive with sound clips. You can place a phone or a small speaker behind it for music.
Radio has build issues

I do like how it turned out but it did need some alterations. The directions were good except for a few illustration angles. The build itself had two major issues. The first was the left knob, the power knob. After I put it together the first time the knob fell out of place and I had to tear the whole thing apart to fix it. Warning ⚠️ do not put in the front panel until it is functioning correctly. It is impossible to remove without the whole thing coming apart. I found that if added a bit more support to the knob and take a few peices out that got in the way of that, it worked well. They were not necessary to the esthetic and made it not fall apart after the first couple of uses. The second part is the right side panel. It is impossible to get it to lay flat. The little red peice with the white stick (pictured) that is made for it to stay on makes it bow out and looks terrible. The only way I found it to work was when I took the red piece out entirely. Now it looks great and functions the way it is meant to. Took me ripping it apart two or three times to get it right which was frustrating. But all in all I like it.

This is my favorite Lego build! I love the look, the color, the vintage age! Please make more like this! This is the first Lego to actually stay in the main living area of my home. We usually put them in our more fun related basement decorating, but not this one!! Thanks Lego for a really fun and decorative piece. Vintage is the best!

I really enjoyed this build. There are varied pieces which kept it interesting, but not overly difficult. The antennae, handle, and moving parts make it fun to display. Overall a really fun build.

Easy to build. Instruction ok. Useless kit. If you want a real radio go elsewhere.

Oh no! Did you know you can mount a smartphone in the rear compartment to make the set come alive and feel even more like a real Retro Radio? Give it a try, and you never know, you could be tuning into even more fun than before!

Had to rebuild this a few times in certain areas. The sound never worked. Its a bit unstable in some places. The good thing is you can put your phone in the back and looks pretty terrific, like an actual radio.

I received this for my 38th birthday, having kids I decided to stay up late and get up early as I didn't want their "help". While drinking tea, having T.V. on in the background and building it took me about 7 hours but I was in no hurry. I had lots of fun investigating all the mechanisms as I was constructing it and I was so happy when it was finished. Contrary to other reviews it does not have a Bluetooth speaker, the speaker simply plays a few pre recorded sounds but it is very cool. I love it honestly.
