Worked great until it didn’t.
I purchased three of these fans about two years ago, and they worked great up until about two months ago. The light on one of the fans started to become very dim. At first, I thought it might be an issue with the bulb, so I replaced it, but that didn’t fix the problem. The fan itself still functions well, but the light has completely stopped working. Considering the price, I expected the light to last much longer than just two years.

Remote control problems
This Dempsey 44" fan, while mechanically sound, is spoiled by the remote control electronics, which are required in order to use the fan at all. I installed the fan four days ago so this is a new unit. 1) It takes about 2 seconds from when the wall switch is flipped until the fan light turns on. Then it does a weird ramp-up from dimmed to full brightness. I could live with this if it were not for the other things. 2) Often it takes repeated presses of the remote control buttons before the receiver in the fan activates the fan or light. The remote receiver wire antenna is buried inside the metal canopy of the fan so this is probably not surprising. I tried adjusting the position of the antenna wire which helped, but did not eliminate this problem. 3) Most disappointing is that when using the fan at any speed there is a constant 60Hz hum present. I bought this Hunter Dempsey fan because I thought it would be _silent_ during operation just like our other Hunter fan (which does not have a remote). I hoped this fan could be used while sleeping.

The 44” fan is for a small room. Not for outdoors
Fans work good in a small area. If you put it on a ceiling more than 8 feet up, you may not feel it.

Dempsey Fan
The fan looks nice but it barely moves the air. You can feel it some if you stand directly under it. I have it in a small space and you can barely notice any air movement, even when the fan is on the highest speed. I would not recommend it.

Noisy fan motor
I needed a low profile fan and I trusted Hunter to be the best. Now that seems like a mistake. The fan motor is very noisy. I inherited Hunter fans in my house that I believe are 3 decades old or more (with pull chains), and all of them are quieter than this one, which for me, is unusable. Is there anything I can do to mitigate? Stuff the voids with styrofoam packing peanuts? Is the noise connected to the remote feature? Because I did not want the remote but this model was not available without it. I also found that the wirenuts that were included were too small for the three-wire connection and I had to call for help to get the remote to pair. (On the call, Stacy was great.)

Nice "look"
We had this installed by a "handy man" who ended up having to come back to fix - the light was flickering and the fan was not working properly when using the remote. I didn't realize when I ordered this that the remote has to be used, and that our separate electrical switches will not work the fan and light separately. I like the look of the fan, however. I had the blades installed with the light oak "down" and it looks almost "tropical" on the lanai. The fan size is good for the small area.

Power randomly cuts off & design is disappointing
Every so often the fan would quit making sounds for a split second, as if the power shuts off and come back on a split second later. It would repeat this randomly throughout the day when the fan was on—regardless if the light was on or not. When the light is on however, the same thing occurs but now the light would blink off and then come back on as it did when the fan was running alone. In regards to the remote, with all the updated styles these days, we are very disappointed with not only the appearance of the remote but its cheap craftsmanship as well. It is unappealing in design and has very minimal, basic functionality.

Very disappointed
Very disappointed to say the least. I bought two of the Dempsey 44 Matte Nickel for my outdoor porch which is 8.5 x 11 for each section to be covered by one fan. Ceiling height is 8' 2". My first disappointment was that the fan is painted which makes it look as if it is made of plastic. Ok I can get over that but the air flow issue is bigger. I must run both fans at the highest setting (3) and be sitting almost directly under the fan to feel a good air flow. To put this in perspective I have a Hunter 52 Sentinel (which I love) in brushed nickel in my master bedroom which is 16 ft x 13 ft with 11 ft ceilings. Rarely do I have to run the fan on high (3). The fan is normally run on the low setting (1) all night and only run at 3 to cool the room off if we have one of those hot TX days. The air flow is great and covers the whole room which is opened to the bathroom area and entrance door is never closed. Final disappointment with my Dempseys is how to pair one remote to both fans is not covered in the manual and is a tedious process to get them paired. After speaking to Customer Support I now know what needs to be done with the disconnecting/reconnecting of the black wire several times to get the remote paired which means I have to get my electrician out again. Same process if you want to get the two fans paired to a wall control. Am I mad at Hunter no but as I said before I am very disappointed in this product. Anyone who thinks the lighting is too dull with the bulbs included with the fan should go get either 75 W or 100 W equivalent DIMMABLE LED bulbs and that will fix your issue.

Hunter “Dempsey” 44” outdoor ceiling fan.
All things considered a nice fan, it’s quiet and puts out enough air for our needs. Disappointed the fan is painted rather than plated. Disappointed Hunter still has an issue with the lights occasionally cycling off then on. Do like to be able to switch out the led bulbs, didn’t like the color temperature and wanted it a bit brighter.

Modern outdoor fan!
We have a small back porch area, so we wanted low profile, quiet, led light and remote control. This fan is perfect - we're well pleased. We had two wall switches controlling our old fan. The Hunter support service was great in answering our wiring questions.

Frosted glass
I love this fan but I can't see a thing. We have changed out the light bulbs multiple times, increase the strength. The frosted glass makes this impossible to brighten up my small kitchen. I love it enough to leave it but tried to locate a replacement glass. Would go with clear glass I guess. Unable to get a replacement clear glass. so little disappointed.
