Description

This carton of Vital Farms Organic Pasture-Raised Eggs holds 12 Large, Brown, Organic Grade A Certified Humane eggs that come from our collection of small family farms to give you a protein-packed meal.
Vital Farms Eggs begin with pasture-raised hens who enjoy a minimum of 108 square feet each of room to roam on small family farms. Our girls have the freedom to forage for local grasses, succulents and wildflowers on rotated pastures while enjoying fresh air and sunshine. Vital Farms began as a single-family farm. As we grew, we didn’t make our farm bigger – we found more like-minded farmers who put the welfare of their feathered friends first. Today, we work with over 350 small family farms who give the girls the outdoor lifestyle they deserve.

Q: Are the pasteurized hens fed a vegetarian diet?

submitted by Nom - 8 months ago
  • A: Hi Nom, Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Our hens spend their days foraging in the pastures, seeking out native and seasonal grasses like clover, rye, and wild onion. They don’t stop with plants, though! You’ll often catch our girls munching on a grasshopper or snacking on a worm. Alongside the food they forage, our girls receive supplemental feed. The supplemental feed consists primarily of corn and soybean meal, which the hens need for protein, as well as additional natural ingredients including paprika and marigold, which, along with their outdoor snacks, help the hens produce eggs with deep orange yolks that our consumers prefer. Our supplemental feed is developed by an animal nutritionist, ensuring the girls receive all the nutrients they need to support their health, active lifestyles, and overall well-being. The supplemental feed will match the certification of the carton. Our organic cartons will come from hens that were fed supplemental feed that's Certified Organic and non-GMO. We hope this helps!

Q: Are these eggs also pasteurized?

submitted by Kat818 - 10 months ago
  • A: Hi Kat, as is the case for most in shell eggs, our raw in shell eggs are not pasteurized. If you have to crack one of our products open, it is not pasteurized. Our liquid whole egg and the cream used to make our butter is pasteurized. For additional information on safe food handling of shell eggs (raw and cooked), we recommend visiting this USDA site: https://tinyurl.com/yyvdn2cu.

Q: Why do the organic eggs weigh 12 oz and the others weigh 1.5 lb? Thanks!

submitted by JLH - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi there! Eggs are graded by carton weight, so occasionally you will see smaller eggs in with larger ones, but they should never all be small. We are required to weigh each carton to ensure compliance and we absolutely do this. Please shoot us an email at info@vitalfarms.com if you have any other questions.

Q: Does the organic feed contain soy or corn? Thank you.

Our supplemental feed is developed by an animal nutritionist, ensuring the girls receive all the nutrients they need to support their health, active lifestyles, and overall well-being. Supplemental feed is provided to our hens in the barns and they can peck at it as they wish throughout the day to ensure they get all the nutrients they need. Because our girls get to choose how they spend their days, some girls spend more time outdoors foraging and feasting on natural grasses and crunchy critters, and some girls prefer to spend more time in the barns munching on the supplemental feed. It really varies from girl to girl!

Q: What's the difference between the USDA organic feed for the organic pasture raised eggs and the conventional feed for pasture raised eggs?

submitted by Mike Ha - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi Mike! Thanks for reaching out with your question about our different egg cartons. All of our eggs are pasture-raised from family farms where the hens have the freedom to forage outdoors year-round. Our farmers do not use any herbicides or pesticides on any of our small family farms. The girls' foraging naturally maintains the land. What differentiates these cartons of eggs is the supplemental feed that the girls receive. Our organic eggs come from girls that are given feed that meets USDA organic standards. Our organic eggs are also non-GMO (reminder - anything that's organic will always be non-GMO!). The eggs in our standard black lid carton come from girls that receive conventional feed. Our conventional feed is far from conventional though! When a new farm joins, we start with a recommended mix, and then continue to adjust based on the needs of the flock. Our farmers and Farmer Support Team closely monitor the girls and cater the feed to their needs year-round. I hope that helps clear things up, but please email us at info@vitalfarms.com if you have any other questions.

Q: What is the difference between Organic Pasture raised Eggs vs Pasture raised eggs? What are the chickens fed in each case ?

submitted by RD - 2 years ago
  • A: All of our eggs are pasture-raised. Organic eggs come from girls that receive feed that meets USDA organic standards. The standard black lid carton eggs come from girls that receive conventional feed.

submitted byDarcie - 2 years ago

Q: Do these chickens have 100% outdoor living 100% of their life times or only outdoor access? (Since there two different things) Thanks in advance for answering my question.

submitted by Jj - 2 years ago
  • A: Vital Farms hens have outdoor access daily, sun up to sun down! Around sundown the hens are herded back indoors to sleep safely inside.

I ordered two dozen vital farm eggs for $7.39 a dozen. However, your people that do curbside delivery out to the car did not want to give me my two dozen of eggs claiming that they were going to expire November 1st. as far as I'm concerned they probably lied so they can keep the eggs for themselves. those eggs fly off the shelves you can't even keep them stocked, that's how I know they're not going to be expiring anytime soon. Besides that, they act like they didn't want to give me my eggs. today's the 27th of October, it's not July 1st. NOW , I have no eggs for breakfast in the morning. whoever did that to me and canceled my order for my eggs, when I didn't want to, should find some other place to work. it was a young male.

Great brand!

I like this brand of eggs. The yolks are nice and orange. Pastured eggs are not fed insecticide sprayed grain, which is not good for our health.

Don't stink like the ones that aren't organic

Can tell the eggs are better quality by the color, shape, and shell thickness. They taste better than the ones that arent organic and they dont stink like them either which was a big problem for me because I would have to wash the dishes twice in the dishwasher.

Price increased in cart

These are great eggs. However, online the identical eggs appeared twice: once for $7.39 and the other for $9.89. Of course I ordered two dozen of the ones at the cheaper unit price. But that order wouldn't go through. My Shipt delivery person called to warn me of the discrepancy. Because I was stuck at home, I went ahead and ordered one dozen at the very high price. I don't blame Target, exactly. Why would they not give us the most competitive price they can? But they shouldn't have an item for sale online at two different prices.

Past sell by date

I picked these up with a drive up order on August 2nd and they have a sell by date of August 1st. I know this stuff can happen but I have tried calling the store like ten times to let them know and customer service doesn’t answer the phone.

Not consistent wuality wise

I don’t mind paying a higher price for high quality eggs but this brand is so inconsistent that I think they are duping their customers. How do I get bright orange egg yolks one carton then the next I get yellow egg yolks that look like they came from a $2.99 carton of eggs!!!!
1 reply from Vital Farms team team - 4 months ago
Hi there! We are sorry to hear this happened and assure you this is absolutely not a typical Vital Farms experience. We do our best to prevent concerns like this and I appreciate you reaching out to let us know. As our hens are truly pasture-raised, you will notice natural variations in our eggs. Much of this variation is affected by what hens eat, and for our hens, this includes a variation of seasonal and localized vegetation in the pastures, as well as supplemental feed. Since a hen’s diet impacts the yolks, their color will vary throughout different seasons of the year. In the summer, the girls tend to eat less due to the warmer temperatures, which can cause their yolks to be lighter. We do our best to respect the variation that stems from all the variables created by our system of small family farming. Please send an email to info@vitalfarms.com so that our customer care team can look into your issue.

Broken eggs

More than half of the eggs were broken. Obviously they were dropped. This has happened before when I’ve picked up eggs in the drive up. Now I’m supposed to bring them back to the store for a refund?! I do drive up to avoid going into the store.

Hi CJ! We hate broken eggs just as much, if not more than the next person. They typically occur when a carton is impacted during transportation. Great quality eggs but the price!

These are my families favorite eggs. They taste great. I’m disappointed in Target changing the price overnight from $7.99 to $10.49! We are a family of 5 and kids love eggs in the morning so we order 2 cartons of these every other day. Off to support my local farms (should have done this awhile ago anyway).

Delicious Eggs You Can Feel Good About

These eggs taste amazing—rich, fresh, and noticeably better than standard grocery store eggs. We love knowing they come from pasture-raised hens and are certified organic. It gives us real peace of mind to know we're making a healthy, humane choice for our family. Whether we’re scrambling them for breakfast or baking, these are our go-to eggs every time. A little more expensive, but 100% worth it for the quality and ethics behind the brand.

Dark yella

My family prefers these eggs. I have bought other brands home and the kids do not see the carton and have no idea which are organic grass fed and which ones are not, but everyone loves these and complains when I make the other ones I buy, so I spend the extra money. The yolk is extra yellow, they taste the same to me but since I don’t buy a lot of organic foods, I’m ok with spending extra to keep them happy.

Overpriced. Not worth it.

Not worth the price. These eggs should have come down in price. This is why companies will be in trouble soon. Price gouging. These are double price in California. Why?
1 reply from Vital Farms team team - 7 months ago
Hi there! We believe our price reflects the great amount of care and hard work from our farmers that goes into raising their hens humanely. There are extra costs associated with keeping our barn doors open year-round (especially in the cooler winter months when the barns have to be heated), feeding the girls the right supplemental feed and so much more. We offer 3 different varieties of eggs in hopes that our products will be more accessible to you. We've also noted that egg prices are currently fluctuating across the country due to low industry inventory caused by Avian Influenza. Our retailer partners set the final pricing that you see on shelf. We recommend speaking with your local store's management to find out more about recent changes in pricing.
