The shade hangs down off the top of the lamp and it makes it look like it is floating. It recommended a 60-watt bulb and that gives it just the right amount of lighting. The switch is located on the chord which makes it a lot easier for me to turn it on since it's sitting on my nightstand by my bed. It doesn't take up a lot of room because of the way it is designed. The quality is exceptional.

I just used a basic LED bulb and might convert to a softer light as the whole room is very well lit when I have it on right now. The wood on the shade is a bit more fragile than I expected, but overall a gorgeous lamp.

Theres a a round rattan shade. It also has a long cord with an off/,on switch that can be easily hidden. The edison bulb recommended gives it a vintage like look combined with the rattan, a bohemian look. Nice combination. I highly recommend
