Q: Do these curtains look solid white on the back or are they black on striped on the back. How do they appear from outside when they are closed?

A: The back is solid off-white. The stripes that look white to a lot of people in the photo are also off-white with a gray undertone, just so you know.

NOT white!!
I wish I would have read more of the reviews regarding the color. These curtains look black and white in the photo and come up on the search "black and white curtains" but this is not any shade of white. It is definitely light gray and doesn't look even close to white to the eye and even worse when next to a true white wall. We might use them in another room but can not use for intended black and white room.

For those having difficulty with the color, I would call the stripes, black and tea-dyed white or like muslin. I was concerned about the shininess of polyester, but for my dining room with lots of light, they still seem soft, not shiny. They are also quite helpful when the sun is at its height, in both shading the room and keeping it cooler. They helped solidify the black and white theme I am working on at this time.
