The smell you are likely experiencing is the rug 'off gassing' after being wrapped and stored in plastic for a period of time. The smell is not harmful and will dissipate on its own in a few days. Not for indoor use, smells & impossible to clean,
This mat stinks and makes the entire entry way smell like industrial rubber The grooves in the pattern make cleaning impossible dirt & everything else get stuck in it and you can’t vacuum it out due to the deep grooves and Velcro type material.
