35L Travel Backpack - Open Story™

I travel carryon only, with a hardshell suitcase and this as my personal item. I’ve taken this bag all over Europe the past two years and here is a list of airlines, the good, and the bad - hope this helps! - United: every domestic and internationally they gave me a hard time at the gate as I was boarding - they said it was too big (it wasn’t overstuffed, but it is “too tall” and not considered a personal item, they considered it a carry on) and they made me check my hardshell carryon at the gate. Every. Single. Time. In fairness, this bag is 19.25” high, so it is 2” too big. - JetBlue: nope! They said it was too large and allowed it on the plane as a personal item on the way there, on the way home they made me check my carryon at the gate. - American: BARELY fit under the seat and one flight attendant said it’s too large - Ryanair: fit in overhead only - EasyJet: fit in overhead only - Spirit: fit under the seat easily - Aer Lingus (local): fit in overhead only - Lufthansa: fit under the seat easily - Delta: fit under seat easily - Southwest: fit under seat easily All in all, it’s held up well but when I fly United I take a smaller bag as my personal item.

Poor design. Too big to be a personal item but looks like the designers tried to make this a personal item by including the carry handle pass through.

Wack. How can you not include a water bottle holder? It doesn’t have a lot of space even though it claims 35L - can’t even travel properly with it while doing my normal system as I’ve done with other backpacks. Stupid purchase and I regret it

Loved the thought of this. Unfortunately the fabric is ripping at the seams after three trips.

I liked that it attaches to a suitcase handle, had good capacity, comfortable straps, and made of nice material that was well-made and thick. I was able to fit packing cubes that mounted to a weekend’s worth of summer clothes with an extra pair of gym shoes. The laptop section is a simple design, that made we worried about bending. There are no internal compartments in either the main section or the smaller sections, which will make it difficult to keep electronics ordered. In addition, the sides of the main compartment are soft so while this allows compression, it’s also kind of floppy. I’m on the fence with it. I usually carry an accessible backpack with electronics and this bag isn’t as handy. I feel like my hard shell carry on held more. Bought on sale so I’ll likely keep it.

It was not fully loaded and the stitching came undone when zipping the internal net. Not great quality

I love this bag! I had a short vacation to pack for and didn’t want to pay for a checked bag or even carry-on, but also I’m not a light packer. I knew a regular backpack wasn’t going to cut it for me. Finding this bag made me so happy. I love the split, zippered sections and multiple compartments throughout. I fit so much in here! And extra bonus that it was in sale!

I don't understand the hype about this bag. This was a last minute purchase before a trip and honestly it's not worth it (even on sale). the large pocket holds a fair amount of stuff. the problem is everything else. The front pocket is perfect for passports, but a little too small for boarding passes. The middle compartment is one of the biggest downfalls of this bag. The pockets are too small and shallow. When the bag was laid flat, items slipped out of those pockets. Why are none of them zippered for smaller items? Also, why is there no water bottle sleeve on the side? Save your money and get a better bag.

I bought this for my husband. He absolutely loves it. He took it on a weekend trip and it fit everything he wanted to take. It opens like a suitcase. I have a similar carry on that opens like a suitcase, but mine was $300. This has as much space and similar compartments. One thing he liked was this can be carried like a backpack, carry-on (side handle), or slipped over handles of a wheeled luggage. Would definitely recommend.

Used as carry-on for an international Delta flight.

I order the bag because my son loves it. I checked it out and ordered one. I love the color blue but they didn’t have a lot of colors to choose from, I got the gray. I like the idea of the bag, but I’m returning it. Not feeling the color. I seen the bags elsewhere and in my favorite color and a better price. So would I recommend the bag yes.

Love this bagpack. It has so many compartments and is great for traveling.

Love this bag! Especially as a carry on or just an overnight bag. The compartments are nicely organized and it holds a great amount of items!

I loved that I could fit so much of my clothes for my vacation and even two pairs of sandals. I put my make up in the plastic zipper compartment it has and the rest of my smaller clothing on the mesh zipper compartments. It has so many compartments where to store things and still had room left. Love that it counts as a personal item on the plane as well. All in all it’s the perfect travel backpack.

First let’s start with size. This review is for the smaller 35 liter version, but many of my comments on quality and design apply to the larger version as well. I waited to write a review until I had used this bag several times and I have now flown with this as a carry on four times. The 35 liter version is small for a carry on bag, but the larger size did not fit me well and would have been uncomfortable to carry (I’m 5’3”). Even the smaller version is much too large to use as a “personal item” unless you find an extremely generous airline! This bag is badly designed, and would not function well enough to use if you are flying with out a checked bag. At the maximum weight allowed for a carry on, this does not have the proper support or good enough straps. There are much better bags designed for this purpose but they are more expensive because they are better quality! In addition to the poor quality, the design of this bag is really bad for travel. They added lots of features that are appropriate for a school bag, not a travel bag. First, the laptop sleeve at the back is horribly designed. It has space for an enormous laptop, but that’s not something you are likely to bring if you are traveling with just carry on luggage! The way the sleeve is designed really eats into the space in the main compartment, so you have to use it to pack other flat items if you want to use the bag efficiently. You have to pack flat items only in this slot because the bag is not designed with an internal frame to protect your back and distribute weight. Next is the outer pocket with slots for pens and other office product. Again this is not needed for a travel bag! And the pocket only opens from the top so it is difficult to use efficiently for travel. Possibly useful for dirty laundry or to slip in some flat folded bulky items. I just needed a carry on back pack to keep my hands free on trips that also included checked luggage. It worked ok for that purpose, and I got the bag on sale, so at a lower price it was acceptable. At full price I don’t think it would be worth it because I don’t think the bag is sturdy enough to last very long. That said, this bag was perfect for the odd items I recently had to transport in carry on luggage! I was able to pack several framed pictures in the laptop sleeve and front pocket. The internal main compartment was perfect for holding a large shoe box packed full of small breakable items. Also had a little room at the top of each compartment for some small normal carry on items. So if you are clearing out mementos from grandmom’s attic this might be the bag for you! It definitely earned a star from me for this use! But for use as a regular carry on it is barely acceptable if you have checked bags. It would not be acceptable for use as your only bag.
