Fun but has flaws
I opted for this over the “pro” version because of the lower price, and the fact that the refills were much easier to find. I only wanted to use it for hobby/just-for-fun purposes and it works for me. However, some warnings: it only takes two capsules at a time, so it must be refilled often. Charging takes a while and it only lasts about 45 minutes. You have to press down on the top to make the candy extrude at a reasonable pace, so my forearms and wrists are sore after using it. It’s not great with precision and control. That said, I appreciate that cleanup is very easy, and it never gets too hot.

Not worth it
We used this for maybe 3 minutes before it got clogged and never worked well again even after cleaning it. It’s extremely slow to melt and doesn’t get hot enough.

Sadly, doesn't work as advertised.
I really wanted this to be an amazing product but it has many issues. First off, the candy doesn't really flow well enough out of the nozzle to create any art with it. It holds 2 small pieces of candy that sadly, don't last long. it's great that it doesn't get hot enough to burn but it doesn't get hot enough to work well. In the photos and instructions, they use it to sort of glue candy to gingerbread, it will not stick and hold. I bought 2 of them, one for myself and one as a gift and I will be returning both.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was really excited to try the 3Doodler Candy Pen, it’s such a fun idea and super creative in theory. The concept of drawing with edible candy is adorable, but the actual results were a little messy. I’m sure with practice we can get it down but the candy came out stringy and hard to control, and it was tough to make anything that looked like the examples on the box. It’s very well made and child friendly. Still, it’s a cute activity for kids or a fun experiment if you like trying new gadgets. I could see me using it for cake decorating. I’d recommend using it as a novelty, not expecting perfect results.

Great idea, needs improvements
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was excited to get this claim for my boys. My eight year old likes to play with it. My 12 year old doesn’t like it. After using it, I quickly understood why he doesn’t like it. It’s hard to make something due to it has to be constantly refilled, the candy is fragile once cool, the candy is hard and sticks to teeth, the candy is dispensed very slowly… For these reasons, I think it’d be best used as glue for building edible creations. I do like its portability, the ease of use, it’s safe for children and seems sturdy enough to hold up to use by children. It is a cool idea, but for me it does not work well enough to be worth using to make decorations. I would also love for the candy sticks to come in a greater variety of colors. I’m hoping my eight year old will play around with it to get better at using it and start building creations.

You can break up a cookie and use the Candy Pen to glue them together in fun, new ways, or add mini marshmallows as wheels to create cookie cars! Once your 12-year is a little older, we'd recommend checking out our 3Doodler Chef Pen (recommended for ages 14+). This pen allows for selecting different temperatures and is motor controlled so it's a really nice option for adult chefs in the kitchen. We love to hear that your 8-year-old is really enjoying it and would encourage you to have him try some easy projects like doodling a candy smiley face on a cookie. As you practice and get better at using the Candy Pen, it’s fun to progress to trying project ideas from the Activity Guide (keep using that parchment paper when tracing) or create your own. It took a little getting used to,after some practice and experiments you Can do any kind of design or writing.i wish it can load more capsules rather than 2 because they finished very quickly and you need to reload candy capsules to continue your design. The candy is little bit hard to chew and it gets stuck on your teeth.overall it’s a fun activity.

Fun family activity!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very interesting and unique product. With all the crazy around fun and fancy desserts this is the perfect addition to any bakers kitchen! This comes with a bag of candy’s. I do wish there was more a variety of color and not just pink and red tones. Would’ve been nice for a rainbow of colors in separate baggies to be included. Definitely a learning curve to using it and don’t try a very difficult design to begin with. Start simple.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was quite difficult to use and the pieces did not fit in the pen to properly melt the sugar, overall I would say this would definitely frustrate a younger child as this even took me and my daughter almost an hour to get one small item finished

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This 3Doodler Candy 3D pen is so much fun. Basically it’s like a hot glue gun for the candies but much safer for kids to use. It comes with a bag of different color candy tubes and each time you can load two pieces. It takes only several seconds to get the candy melted and come out from the nozzle. One load lasts about 30 seconds of writing and enough to spell a word without needing new loads. It is better to use on parchment paper instead of the silicon mat as silicone mat is too non sticky and the candy is easily being lifted up while still creating. The booklet has many ideas and some easy patterns which you can trace with the parchment paper layering on it. I would suggest it for kids older than 6 to play it with the help of adults with reloading. If anything stuck you can use the brush included to clean it and if still not working you can easily put the part into warm water to melt the candy.

Just ok

On the first attempt, this worked OK, but when we tried a second time, the nozzle was immediately jammed and really frustrated my kids. It is a cool concept, but I am not sure the device is really ironed out for functionality.
