Q: Does this get too hot for kids hands when using?

A: It does not heat up at all. The only thing that heats up, just a little bit, is the tip but its just slightly warm. It will not cause any burns.

Q: What can you tell me about charging the battery? For example: Do I need to charge before using for the first time? Once charged, can it be used for an hour? Can it be used WHILE it's being charged?

A: Hi Carmen! Begin by charging your 3Doodler Start+ to ensure the motor is able to run at full power. This will take 45 minutes to 2 hours. Do not use the 3Doodler Start+ while charging. The light will flash orange while charging, and will turn solid orange once it is fully charged. Once fully charged, your 3Doodler Start+ will run wirelessly for 45-60 minutes. I got this for my 7 and 9 year olds for Christmas and it was a hit. One of their favorite presents. They have used it almost everyday. It’s very fun and creative. You won’t create 3d printed looking items because it’s just a pen but still fun for my kids.

Bought it for my 8 year old as a christmas present. She began to use it today and it already stopped working. It was working fine until the battery died. We put it to charge and tried to use it again, but it didnt work. It stilll sounds like its working but nothing comes out. Overall its a pretty cool little toy pen but you will need a lot of the sticks and its pretty expensive for how long it lasted.

Don't waste your money, go for an actual real one. My five year old was so excited for this and it jammed two days after opening it. I read the reviews and ignored so my loss. The tip doesn't get hot enough to burn but still uncomfortable for a child to feel on their skin, so I was the main user. I followed all instructions including taking the plastic out if not in use and it still somehow managed to get jammed (maybe some melted plastic got stuck on the inside while ejecting it.) It's unfixable unless taken apart which I won't waste my time on. I'll just buy a better product. Cute idea though just not worth the money.

The pen itself works well enough (we’ve had it for a week now) and my 10 year old loves it. But be warned, the filament required (2.5mm) is something that only 3Doodler produces. It is NOT compatible with most of the standard filaments that are out there which means you have to buy refills from 3Doodler and they’re pricey.
