Description
Book Synopsis
This book is open access under a CC BY license and explores the under-researched history of male mental illness from the mid-twentieth century. It argues that statistics suggesting women have been more vulnerable to depression and anxiety are misleading since they underplay a host of alternative presentations of 'distress' more common in men.About the Author
Ali Haggett is Research Fellow at the Centre for Medical History, University of Exeter, UK. Her research has focused on the history of gender and mental disorders and her previous work includes: Desperate Housewives, Neurosis and the Domestic Environment (2012). She is particularly interested in the relevance of history to current debates about mental illness.
