Q: How thick is the mat they lay on?

submitted by Glo - 4 years ago
  • A: NOT dense, so no matter how lofty they claim it is it is NOT thick at all. you will need additional padding under. Also, the fabric is slippery so baby will kick herself/himself away from the piano.

submitted bysan mas - 1 year ago
  • A: Great question, the mat is approximately 3/16” thick.

Q: Is the piano detachable and does it come with a holder that can be placed in the crib.

submitted by CAunt - 4 years ago
  • A: The holder does NOT hold the piano in place. A 7 week old baby can kick it over or out of reach in no time. The screws easily loosen on their own. Piano slides around on slick mat.

submitted bysan mas - 1 year ago
  • A: Thank you for the question! The Magic Touch Piano is detachable. The product does not include a holder to attach within a crib.

Piano stopped working

We received as a gift a couple months ago, and just as my son is getting big enough to kick the keys on his own, three of them stopped working. That was the B main reason we wanted one of these!

It talks in 3 languages (ie it says everything 3 times in a row, repeating in different languages). There is no feature to shut off the extra languages. Not many parents are trying to teach their children 3 languages at once so I find this feature incredibly distracting. Also, it's shown with a variety of rainbow colored rings but mine came with only all blue rings, I'm disappointed it's not as displayed.

This was a great purchase for my 5 month old grandson !!! Has many things to keep him entertained, This one with the piano is great Plays music and other educational sounds plus he can kick and play notes ! It’s more expensive than other ones, but I am very happy with my purchase. The only downfall is it’s not very padded, but I put a play mat underneath and it’s perfect.

Love this playmat with piano keyboard. It has kept my baby occupied from the time he was about 2 months old to now at 8 months, he still loves it! My only complaint is that sometimes when you touch a key on the piano, it’ll say the wrong number. Since 4 and 5 are right next to each other, sometimes if he hits “5”, it’ll say “4” so it could be confusing to a little one learning their numbers, colors, animals, etc.

I had to upgrade the Einstein Baby activity mat I originally purchased 6 years ago. I like the improvements that have been made by the brand. I notice that the overhead bars connect under the mat to avoid the hard plastic that connects the two pieces. Also, the overhead arms are a metal encased in quilted fabric instead of pure foam. I love the introduction of multiple languages from the beginning. All of my children are multilingual, with teaching beginning in infancy. I know various people who have moved from Spain or France that claim it didn't delay speech with any of their children. I have the same experience with all of mine. I wish there were better contrast to help with infant brain development. Maybe a black and white stripe background instead of just the border. My husband was confused that the hard plastic supports of the piano are exposed when the rest of the design went to great lengths to cover or soften any hard plastic supports. Overall excellent improvement in product quality and functionality.

Small but fine

3 out of 5 stars
Small but fine - 4 months ago
Pros: colorful, soft pad, love the piano good quality not junky. Though my little one (3 months) is a kicker and mover he doesn't kick the piano - he just looks at it lighting up and figured out how to push some of the buttons to make a noise. Works for me! Cons: the set up is a little small. It is also hard for him to play with some of the toys. For example: flip cards and the triangle doesn't hang low enough. Wish there was a middle toy or the mirror was hanging someone at the X point.

Excellent development toy for babies starting in the 2-4 month stage where they are learning to look, focus, feel, and be aware of their surroundings. My now 3 month old daughter loves kicking on the piano and realizing it’s her that is causing all the notes.

Returning, too many small flaws

1 out of 5 stars
Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend
Juli - 6 months ago
I really wanted to love this product because it’s very cute but there are a few flaws. I think this one was defective because the Velcro part that connects the two criss cross bars is on the wrong side of the bar. I noticed this because the little notches to hang the toys was on the side same as the Velcro but it’s pictured the opposite. So the toys don’t hang properly. (Pictures to show) In comparison to the Fisher Price one I had for my older daughters when they were babies, the piano on this one has to be unscrewed to turn whereas the Fisher Price one can be turned without having to unscrew. It’s not a big deal but just something I noticed. The piano isn’t really very secured onto the mat. Again, Fisher Price has better design. I like the toys better on this one but I’m returning it since it’s defective and a little more expensive.

Do not put this on your registry

Like other reviews, my 4 month old doesn’t roll over yet, but he tears this thing apart and has fun doing it. It’s like a game now. He scoots himself sideways and hooks his feet on the crossbars until he kicks them down and then wraps his arms around them and sucks on the little toys that are supposed to be hanging. Lol. The screws to the piano are always coming loose. The entire thing comes apart half the time when you move it. I’m constantly readjusting the entire thing. The piano is fun and it’s cute but I would not get this again and would recommend not putting this on your registry. The piano ones with the plastic on the sides are much sturdier, that’s the one we have in the other room. It works great and he loves it. He still kicks the thing but it doesn’t come apart and it’s easy to move around.
