CRAWLING with fungus gnats after 1 day
I bought this kit for my son and we planted the seeds yesterday according to the instructions. Opened the lid this morning to "check" on our plants, and it is crawling with fungus gnats. My best guess is that they were in the potting soil at the bottom of the jar, because the only other time I've had a hard time with gnats was when I used this brand's potting soil. I thought it was a fluke then, but now it seems to be something to be aware of. I'm sad, because we loved their mushroom kit last year.

No growth can result from one or a combination of reasons, but strawberries can take up to 4 weeks to germinate depending on conditions. Don't Waste Your Money or Time
I purchased two of these in March of 2024. I would like to mention that I am not a beginner with plants. Neither of these had any successful germination. I went to the company's website and purchased a 4-pack strawberry seedlings and that was a saga of problems. My first package I received 1 seedling. Emailed customer service from the company and they sent a "replacement" which again contained a single seedling. The next 2 packages each contained 3 seedlings, and were in very poor condition (wilted, overly saturated soil that was moldy, smelled terrible, and/or had fungus gnats). I eventually gave up on them.

Didnt work
After 2 months of tending to this every single day and following directions to a tee, had two tiny sprouts come up and then die 2 weeks later. In all of the pictures, I don’t see anyone who actually grew any strawberries.

Cool idea but honestly it just wasn’t for me. It definitely takes patience as it takes time for the seeds to grow and all that… to be honest i couldn’t look at that jar of dirt in my windowsill any more so i dumped it. My kids weren’t into it either. Maybe they would have been once the berries started growing but honestly we were months away from any kind of fruit payoff.

The starting soil disk didn't expand
A coconut coir seed starting disk was supposed to expand when given water, then placed back into the jar, but after placing mine in a small bowl it didn't expand no matter how much water was given or how long I waited

Buy one give one!!
I have a brown thumb and a half, but this grow kit really set me up for success (thus far). I have my seedlings going strong, the included fertilizer spikes nourish the infants well! I love what the company stands for (giving back to kids & learning to love what you do) and I love how you can call and actually speak to someone at the farm! The only thing I disliked was the size of the jar. I think you could include smaller squares during the nursery stage, that big jar has lots of soil and space. Kinda big for an induce window sill. All else was great!!

Very easy to set up!
