These are 1/8" diameter! Beware!

These are 1/8th diameter without the flux. I could not melt these with a Bernzomatic Firepoint and propane. I ended up going to my local welding supply store to get smaller and lower temperature filler (1/16", 45% Ag) and was easily able to finish my project (brazing in 1.3mm pins to 26 gauge sheet metal).

I purchased these to complete a soldering project for a gunsmithing course in which I was to solder 2 pieces of steel bar stock together. Using a torch with MAPP gas worked best. Once I got the 2 pieces heated appropriately, the flux went on easily and the brazing rod melted and filled the gap with no problems. The bond was strong and the filler was easily filed down to make a smooth seam.

Doesn't flow out

This product is supposed to be good for brazing cast iron, I assume, using a BM torch. It can't. I attempted to braze a small cross-section cast piece (about 3/8' square). As recommended, I beveled the edges, cleaned the iron, and preheated the cast iron to 600F for 1/2 hr. I then heated the iron in the repair location until red hot- the rod would not melt. Even in the direct flame of the torch, it would not flow. It did clump, but would not flow. I don't recommend this rod for use with a Bernzomatic 7000 torch on propane.
