Q: How does lap shade attach ? Ring at the top screw on or lower ring hugs part of light socket?

A: The Brodie Floor Lamp has a harp piece that is placed on the saddle, the lamp shade attaches this piece which is threaded down by the finial on top of the shade. I don't know exactly which ring you are referring to, but the lampshade sits more on the top.
