All 3 of my kids have loved this book as babies/toddlers. It makes a great gift for a 1 year old birthday or baby shower. The doors are easy enough for my kids to slide open at 1 year old- and they love sliding the doors open to peek at the next animal. From the time my grandkids were about 6 months old I began reading this book. As they became able, they LOVED being able to open and close the little windows on each page and they never tired of showing surprise at just which animal would show up in the window. We read it together for years and it remained a favorite. It broke my heart when they graduated to older kids books. I made sure to pass this one on to another young family to love. God bless Eric Carle. This one is a winner!

The Slide & Find version of Brown Bear is the best. It's already a great book with repeating, predictable text. It also introduces colors without being a book about colors. But the slide feature makes it that much more appealing to toddlers. This is one of my favorite books to gift to kids for their first birthday.
