Q: Shopping for a camera to use at air shows. Been advised to get a canon mirrorless R50. Does it have a fast shutter speed?

submitted by Ruth - 12 days ago
  • A: Hi, thanks for reaching out about Canon EOS R50 RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3mm IS STM Kit: Mirrorless Wi-Fi Digital Camera Yes, the Canon EOS R50 has a very fast shutter speed. It has two different shutter mechanisms, each with a different maximum speed: Electronic Shutter: This has a maximum shutter speed of 1/8,000 second. Its best used for highest speed for freezing the fastest motion. Electronic 1st-Curtain (Mechanical): This has a maximum shutter speed of 1/4,000 second. This has good speed and is less prone to distortion than the electronic shutter. The Canon R50 is an excellent choice for air shows, but you may also want to invest in a telephoto lens (something with a long reach, like 200mm or more) to truly fill the frame with the aircraft. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

Q: Can I turn the flash on manually? Or does it automatically detect if flash is needed?

submitted by Sierra - 1 month ago
  • A: Hi, thanks for reaching out about Canon EOS R50 RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3mm IS STM Kit: Mirrorless Wi-Fi Digital Camera If your camera is set to a "Basic Zone" mode like A+ (Scene Intelligent Auto), the camera decides whether to fire the flash based on lighting conditions.7 If you want manual control, you must switch to one of the Creative Zone modes. To manually enable the built-in flash on your Canon EOS R50, you need to take two steps. First you will want to manually raise the flash unit. Unlike some older cameras that have a flash button to physically pop up the flash, the R50's built-in flash must be manually raised. Gently pull up on the front of the built-in flash unit until it clicks and locks into its raised position. Next, if your camera's mode dial is set to a "Creative Zone" mode (P, Tv, Av, or M), you need to tell the camera to always fire the flash, not just when it thinks it's dark. To perform this task, Press the MENU button, navigate to the shooting menu (the red camera icon). Next go to the Flash Control setting and select Flash Firing. Change the setting from [Flash off] (or [Automatic firing]) to [Fire] (often represented by a small lightning bolt icon). In Creative Zone modes (P, Tv, Av, M), the flash will fire every time you take a picture as long as the flash unit is physically raised. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

Q: How would I know is a mirrorless camera? It doesn’t say outside the box

submitted by Moni - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi, thanks for reaching out about Canon EOS R50 RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3mm IS STM Kit: Mirrorless Wi-Fi Digital Camera A mirrorless camera can be identified by its lack of a mirror box and pentaprism, resulting in a smaller and lighter body compared to a DSLR. Instead of an optical viewfinder, it uses an electronic viewfinder (EVF) or the rear LCD screen to display a live preview of the image, showing you exactly what the sensor sees. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

I really love this camera. It’s easy to use. I did a lot of research before purchasing one and this one checked all the boxes for me. There is an app so you can easily transfer photos to your phone. Great auto focus. I ended up purchasing another lens for further shooting but the one it comes with is great for closer up shots. I’ll attach photos I’ve taken with the camera and edited on photoshop.

    A Good Travel Camera

It has a pop-up flash, fully articulating back and is small size. It is a good camera for casual shooting and a travel companion. Canon's does not offer any prime RFS lenses. The zooms are limited also. I like 1.4 to 1.8 lens for interior shooting and a macro for flowers/stamps/coins.

    Very nice for the price

I've got an M6 which I love and use for hiking -- it clips on my backpack and is both small and light. Of course the "M" series is discontinued -- my daughter wanted something similar. We're both Canon shooters with plenty of other cameras for the last 20 years. This was what I got her to fill the bill; its very close in size with the kit lens to the M6, and she loves it for this purpose. Of course its not waterproof so you have to take some care with it, but for this application small and light without compromising much else is the key, and that it has the same quality of sensor is the biggie. Now if there were just more of them at the price I paid for this one (I'd upgrade my M6 to one of these too.... :-))

    Great little camera

I got this camera as a backup to my Canon R6ii. Something I could take on vacation or do street photography that was much smaller and portable and something I wouldn't have to worry about so much if something happened to it. So far I am very happy with it's capabilities and the pictures it takes.

    Great camera and lens kit

I upgraded from a DSLR (Canon 90D) and prefer the mirrorless Canon R50. It's more sensitive, MUCH lighter, "smarter" (can do more automatically), fits in my pocket with this lens retracted, and is just a nice companion. With the 90D, it's so heavy that I'd have to consciously think "Do I really want to lug a camera around today?" But the R50 just comes with me no matter what.

    Canon Mirrorless Camera

I absolutely love this camera and I recommend it to anyone who is new to cameras and looking for something easy to work with, but also has amazing quality. I use my camera strictly for posing pictures at the gym and filming and I have zero complaints. I have also been told by many peers that my picture quality is amazing on my posts and there is a clear difference from my phone quality !!!

    Great product

The product is absolutely amazing and has worked great for me! If I had to say one con of this product I would say that this product is simple. Not a bad thing, but it limits some of the features on the camera that can be found on other products still a great product and I definitely recommend to beginners and intermediate photographers

The Canon R50 is a budget camera that produces professional results!

This is a very underrated mirrorless camera. Fabulous Digic X processor and Dual Pixel Autofocus is incredible. Set it up for eye focus and AUTO detecting people, autos, etc. and it is mind blowing how well it works. I even use it in an underwater housing and it finds creatures and divers eyes easily! The touch screen is so fast and adjusting parameters is easy. Even the AUTO shooting modes are so simple to hand to someone and they can get a great photo with it.
