With its 100mm fixed focal length, the RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM lens provides a great representation to capture impressive portraits, food photos, flowers and more with minimal distortionOptical Image Stabilizer with up to 5 Stops of Shake CorrectionBecause RF lenses are designed specifically for the RF Mount found on EOS R series cameras, the lens and camera combine to share shooting data, helping to dramatically reduce the effect of camera shake that can occur when using handheld. This applies when capturing both stills and video, with up to 5 stops of stabilization for accurate and clear imagery.Hybrid IS Compensates for Angular and Shift Camera Shake during Macro ShootingEquipped with the Hybrid IS technology, the Image Stabilizer of the RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM effectively reduces blurring in handheld macro photography by compensating for both angle and shift camera shake. This helps to deliver impressively clear, up-close results.Spherical Aberration (SA) Control Ring Allows Adjustments to Shape and Character of Foreground/Background BokehThe RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM features Canon’s first adjustable Spherical Aberration (SA) control ring on the lens barrel that allows you to adjust the depiction of the image’s background bokeh. Used to add a unique emphasis to your imagery, the SA Control Ring allows the user to change the shape and character of the foreground and background bokeh. A minus setting creates a dreamy, soft-focused look, while a Plus setting creates a bubble-bokeh-type look. Adding a third ring to the lens, the SA Control Ring has a notable surface that can be differentiated from the Control Ring and Focusing Ring..Up to 8 stops of Shake Correction with Coordinated Optical Image Stabilizer and In-Body Image StabilizerWhen combined with an EOS R series camera equipped with In-Body Image Stabilizer, the lens' Optical Image Stabilizer teams up with the In-Body Image Stabilizer to provide coordinated IS up to 8 stops, further helping to alleviate shaking for photos and video, and adjusting the ratio from optical to in-body stabilization automatically throughout the zoom range so you have the best of both worlds.High Speed, Smooth and Quiet Auto Focus with Dual Nano USMThe RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM is equipped with dual independent Nano USMs to help achieve high-speed and focus accuracy throughout its focusing range. This helps you quickly focus and keep up with fast-moving subjects as well as provides smooth and virtually silent autofocus while shooting movies, so there is relatively no disturbance for you, the subject or in what you see visually and hear audibly during shooting and playback..

Produces crisp, clear, and beautiful pictures. Fast and quiet focus. Lens is light and very comfortable to use. Still learning to use the SA ring, not sure I will consistently use the feature since I prefer sharp images.

Very sharp lens, easy to focus on the small objects, and can even focus on the tiny face, for example the face of a watch.

All the reviewers on YouTube claims this was a no brainer. I thought it was only for macro photograph but when I took to 2023 Eastern Parkway Labor Day Parade. I was giddy with joy. It was mostly a lucky surprised but the moment and the distance will have you salivating for the RF 135mm. Always remember your minimum focusing distance because you'll miss out on the festivities as its happen.

I am only a hobbyist, but I gotten great results with this RF 100mm F/2.8 Macro lens. I am using a Canon EOS R7 which gives me a focal length of 160mm. My only compliant is that the auto focus can be a little slow and the camera auto tracking can mistake your subject. Hopefully there is a firmware update for the camera that can help fix this issue.

I grew up with the always fun EF 100mm Macro and when I dove into Canon's mirrorless R series bodies it became obvious very quickly that the new RF lenses were worthwhile improvements as well. While I initially used an EF-RF adapter and was completely satisfied using 'old' glass on the new bodies I have found that pairing RF lenses with RF bodies takes every aspect of the photography experience up, out, and beyond expectation. Upgrading from the EF (very old non-L version) to the RF 100mm L brought with it greater magnification, closer focal distance, amazingly fast and quiet auto focus, and a fun Spherical Aberration tweak control. I can't say how much of an upgrade this is from the EF-L version but I know I'm amazed from where I stepped up from (and I was really happy with the EF). The SA adjustment is great for portraits and I leave it locked neutral for Macro work. If you're looking for the most fun per dollar lens you can own buy this! *The examples attached were taken at the ends of the aperture settings to give you an idea of the visual flexibility (f2.8 to 32)

After typing a long review explaining everything, when I tried to post, the website says ad blockers are blocking reviews... so I disabled ad blockers, then my review disappeared. Let me make this short, this lens is back focusing starting at f4 and all the way to f22. Even using manuaI focus with Canon's own focus peaking on the R5, I got the same result. So I googled, and found out, it is a known issue. Thank you Canon, I will return this lens ASAP.

So far, so good, first time exploring with a Macro lens. Previously did not want to purchase a Macro lens until I upgraded from my CMOS camera to a full-frame. Purchased the 6D Mark II and now have enjoyed exploring the Macro world, still learning.

Waited for this lens for a long time, I primarily use it for headshots / portraits , but it's been fun to do some macro shots as well. It's a nice size and "L" build quality. Focus is fast and sharp at 2.8. I think the price was a little high, but that seems to be the trend with the RF line.

I'm in love with macro photography so I was happy as can be when Canon announced an RF version of the 100mm macro lens. I've owned the other Canon 100mm macros (EF100mm f2.8 USM & EF100mm f2.8L IS USM) and this one lives up to it's pedigree. It is equally sharp and bright as the EF100 L IS with the bonus of 1.4X focus, updated IS, and RF mount. Combined with the R6 Body it is a joy to shoot with and gets great results. Regarding the new SA Control; since I mostly shoot macros, I want the sharpest images possible and will most likely never use it. I'm glad it has a lock so it doesn't accidently get moved off center.

This lens is fantastic! Fast focusing, great image stabilization and sharp as sharp can get. Aside from the obvious use as macro lens, it's also a great product or still life lens, as well as a portrait lens. Really happy with this purchase!

This not a heavy lens but it is rather large. The focusing is completely internal which I guess is what makes it so long, especially given that it focuses down to 1.4x magnification. Good sharpness and very fast focusing. Although an interesting feature, I’m not sure how much use the SA control will be used. I didn’t go with 5 stars because of the high price.
