OINTMENT VS CREAM - WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
There are three main types of moisturizers: lotions, creams, and ointments. Generally speaking, lotions tend to be the most lightweight moisturizer option, followed by creams, and then ointments—which are usually the thickest and most occlusive. Many people with dry skin choose to include both creams and ointments in their skincare routine. For example, you can apply CeraVe Moisturizing Cream first to help relieve dry skin all over your face and body. Next, CeraVe Healing Ointment can be applied to help provide soothing benefits and targeted relief for chafed or cracked areas (such as chapped lips, cracked heels, and dry hands).

Q: Can this be used on a sunburn?

submitted by Sunny - 24 days ago
  • A: Hello Sunny. Thank you for your interest in CeraVe Healing Ointment. Using CeraVe Healing Ointment on a fresh sunburn is not recommended because it can trap heat and worsen the pain. However, it can be highly beneficial once the burn has cooled down and entered the peeling phase. We hope this information is helpful. Thank you again for taking the time to reach out.

submitted by Curious - 6 months ago
  • A: Hello there. Our Healing Ointment is a wonderfully versatile product, designed to protect and soothe compromised skin. It can be applied generously to areas of dry, chapped, or irritated skin to help restore the skin's barrier and provide lasting moisture. Q: Can this be used on eyelids?

submitted by Ness - 6 months ago
  • A: Hello Ness! Thank you for asking about using our Healing Ointment on your eyelids. Our CeraVe Healing Ointment is specifically formulated to protect, soothe, and hydrate very dry, chafed, or cracked skin, helping to restore the skin's natural barrier with ingredients like petrolatum, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid. It is a very rich and emollient product. The skin around the eyes, especially the eyelids, is exceptionally delicate and sensitive. While the ointment is designed to be gentle and non-irritating, we always recommend exercising caution when applying any product directly to the eyelid area. For precise guidance and to ensure it's suitable for your specific needs, particularly given the sensitivity of the eyelids, we advise consulting with a dermatologist or healthcare professional. They can provide the best recommendation for using products in such a delicate area.

Q: Is this non-comedogenic?

submitted by M - 8 months ago
  • A: Hello M! The term non-comedogenic indicates that the product has a low potential for clogging pores. The presence or absence of oil in a product does not mean a product will or will not be non-comedogenic. Not all products are tested for non-comedogenicity. If the non-comedogenic claim does not appear on the product, it is not an indication the product is comedogenic.

Q: What’s the difference between this and the Cerave Baby Healing Ointment?

submitted by Mzthang - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello Mzthang! The key difference between CeraVe Healing Ointment and CeraVe Baby Healing Ointment lies in their intended use and slight formulation variations. While both ointments share a similar base of petrolatum and ceramides to protect and hydrate the skin, the Baby Healing Ointment is specifically formulated for babies' delicate skin and may be slightly gentler. The standard Healing Ointment is suitable for a wider range of skin concerns and can be used by people of all ages, particularly for dry, cracked, or irritated skin. Both are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic but consider the baby version for extra sensitive skin. Checking the full ingredient list on each product can further clarify any differences.

Q: Is it certified gluten free?

submitted by Jane - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello Jane, Thank you for your inquiry on CeraVe Healing Ointment, Moisturizing Petrolatum Skin Protectant for Dry Skin Unscented - 3oz. Most ingredients derived from grain sources are highly refined and retain no traces of gluten proteins. For less refined ingredients from natural sources, CeraVe has established strict limits on the level of potentially allergenic proteins. Since individuals exhibit a wide range of sensitivities to these proteins, if you have any questions or concerns you should discuss with your medical care provider. All the ingredients we use in a product are listed on the package or the label of the product itself. For products too small to accommodate the list, a separate ingredient list is available on the display unit in the store for your convenience. Since some ingredients are known by more than one name, we use the standard industry FDA-recognized names. A review of the ingredients that are listed on all of our products or packages will alert you to the presence of this type of ingredient.

    Zero Stars

The "New and Improved" version is awful! It is so sticky and gross. I feel like it turns me into a Human Lint Roller! It you leave it uncovered, everything sticks to it. So what are my options? Long sleeves and long pants to bed in the summer. The clothing is stuck to you. It leaves a sticky residue. All around gross! ZERO STARS - Don't recommend. Why you changed a good thing, I will never understand.

    Skin Healer

The texture is thick and occlusive, but it doesn't feel as heavy or greasy as traditional petroleum jelly. I use it on dry patches, lips, cuticles, and as the last step of my nighttime skincare routine. It makes my skin feel much softer, less irritated, and more hydrated. It does an excellent job locking in moisture, especially during colder weather or when my skin is extra dry. I also appreciate that it's fragrance-free and gentle enough for sensitive skin. The formula contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid, which help support the skin barrier while providing long-lasting hydration.

    Bad Change :(

I have severe eczema and have been using CeraVe Healing Ointment for years. It was one of the few products that consistently helped keep my skin moisturized and protected without causing irritation. Unfortunately, the recent formula change has been extremely disappointing. The new version feels much stickier and tackier than the original. It doesn't spread as easily, sits heavily on the skin, and seems to make my eczema feel more irritated rather than soothed. The original formula was smooth, comfortable, and effective, which is why I continued purchasing it for so many years. For people with severe eczema, finding a product that works can take years of trial and error. CeraVe Healing Ointment was my go-to product, so it is frustrating to see such a noticeable change. I sincerely hope CeraVe considers bringing back the original formula or offering it as an alternative option for customers who relied on it. Very disappointed with this change.

    New Formula is a Mess

The new formula is a mess. I’ve used this product for a long time and the old version was second to none. But this new and improved sticky mess is just awful. It doesn’t moisturize like it used to and it’s so tacky and dries you out.

    Cerave I love you

I absolutely LOVE this cerave product. I get chapped lips and skin and use it and it works wonders. The packaging is easy to open with the lid and it looks great however it can be hard to travel with the large container. However you can scoop some out and take it on the go with a smaller container and I do that! I find it soothes my skin and heals it very fast with the ingredients and I haven’t personally ever had an issue using it. It truly fixes my cracked and irritated skin quickly and I always find myself using it and recommending it.

    Retract and Go Back

I know you HAVE to have a bunch of overstock of the old formula. Please send it to me. It was literally the only thing that worked for my daughter’s skin. This new formula dries her skin and breaks her out so bad. Please go back to the old formula. Literally every platform where reviews are left says this. You all made a mistake. Correct it and keep your reputation as a skin care brand that actually heals.

Please bring back the old formula

Horrible reformulation. The old formulation was perfect for the lips, under the eyes (no stinging), and any dry patches on the skin. Also was perfect for slugging without clogging pores. I'm sorry to say that this new formula does not glide on the skin nearly as well and tugs on the skin uncomfortably. It also does not feel nearly as moisturizing. Please bring the old formula back!! It was perfect for those of us with sensitive, acne-prone skin.

We are incredibly sorry to hear that your recent purchase did not live up to the standard you've come to expect from us, and that you experienced tugging and a lack of moisture on your lips and under-eye area. We develop all of our products closely with dermatologists to ensure they are safe, comfortable, and deeply hydrating for sensitive skin. Your feedback regarding the texture change is incredibly valuable to us, and we will be sharing with our Manufacturing Teams.

    New but not “improved”

The new formula is not good. I have been using cerve healing ointment as a chapstick for years, and it was the only thing that didn’t give me hives (I have very sensitive skin, and even aquaphor gives me hives) The new formula and thicker and sticker, so it is not nice to put on and sure enough I’m starting to get a sand paper like rash. Most of the people who have used this product use it because they have sensitive skin, and making changes to the formula was not what sensitive skin people need. I’m going to have to try is stock up on the old formula if I can find it, which it seems others are doing as well. 0 out of 5

    New formula is awful

Awful! The new formula is absolutely awful. Why do brands do this? The new formula is NOT an improvement, it is sticky, thick, and sucking the moisture out of my skin. It feels like my skin is burning after applying. The original formula was so innovative. This is a slap in the face to customers who have been relying on this for their sensitivities. The old formula is nowhere to be found and this new one is a completely different product.

So Disappointed With The Formula Change

Used to love this product. I have very sensitive skin and a lot of allergies. This product was then only thing i could use for my lips for a lip balm. Tried the new formula and ended up having an allergic reaction. Really devastating. I think it would have been better if you all kept the old formula and marketed this new formula as a healing BALM. Because the new formula feels so much different , Either way the formula change is awful and really a let down.
