Tastes so bad. This one used to be kind of sweet but now it just tastes like sunscreen and I have to wipe it off immediately. :(

Can’t go wrong

So if you’re ever struggling a little with chapped skin in the winter — this is a great go to. This brand’s chapstick is a staple everywhere in the United States! They have great seasonal products with different scents and even some shaded varieties but, no one can go wrong with good ol’ original! My toddler gets little bouts of chapped skin on his face and dab some of this on in a pinch and it even helps cheeks! It’s silky smooth and has a nice natural smell and tiny bit of shine. If you like a clear gloss on your lips this is so much more hydrating — not as shiny but does last awhile! I’d put this on as a base layer then add the gloss! Highly recommend any of their chapsticks - if you get one you know you’re getting a good product! I posted before and after applying!

New formula = gross sunscreen taste in your mouth

I have been using this blue Chapstick for over 20+ years. I did not notice the formula change right away, but I noticed the chapstick tasted bad. So I thought I got a bad batch, threw the three tubes away, and bought more. No, it is this new formula. The SPF is lowered, but most importantly, it tastes and smells like sunscreen. It is immediate and overpowing. I cannot stand it. I went to a small town drugstore that may not have restocked yet and bought up all of their stock of "old" formula. When that runs out, I guess I'm switching brands, but this new formula is so nasty tasting that I can't use it. What was Chapstick thinking? Probably trying to save half a penny a tube with cheaper/different ingredients. Well you lost a customer instead . . . .

Disgusting Chemical Taste

I’ve been buying this chapstick for as long as I can remember. I just bought a new pack and have only used it for a couple days and have to throw it away. There is an AWFUL taste to it. And it doesn’t go away. Hours after applying it still tastes like there’s chemicals on my lips. It’s so, so gross. It also doesn’t seem to moisturize as effectively as it used to as well—don’t waste your money!

I like chapstick. I like that it moisturizes my lips and that it keeps them hydrated. I like that this chapstick has spf on it. Spf helps my lips from the sun. Great product.

Daily use item that went down the tubes

Maybe someone will enjoy my double entendre. Unfortunately, what you won’t enjoy is this new formulation. Yikes. What a disappointment. This is the only type of Chapstick I use, have used it now for probably 15+ years. Has seemed consistent all of those years, until today. Today I bought a three pack at Target, and it’s a new formulation. I noticed right away I tasted what seemed like sunscreen. But it wasn’t temporary…. I put it on about ten hours ago, and even with wiping it off with a Kleenex, eating two meals, drinking and washing my face… I can still taste it. I’m throwing the three new tubes away. I’ve never found a comparable product, in either Chapstick brand or another brand. All others are too strong flavor/smell and/or they don’t keep your lips nearly as moisturized for so long. R&D team at Chapstick: what in the heck are you doing? How did this product even pass early rounds of development and testing?? I’m stuck giving one star, since zero stars is not an option.

Not sure what they changed in this “new formula” of chapstick but I now have allergic chelitis that needs topical steroids to treat. Only thing I’ve changed in my routine is my chapstick tube, so whatever new ingredients they’ve added I am super allergic to. Be warned.

New formula is bad

I read the recent bad reviews about the new formula, but still had to see for myself. Unfortunately, the reviews are accurate. I’ve been using this chapstick for 20 years, I don’t understand why Chapstick decided to mess with the formula. It now has less spf and has a weird chemical taste. At first I didn’t think it was that bad, it goes on a bit thicker and had a slightly different smell, but otherwise seemed fine. But after having it on for 15 minutes, I started to notice the gross taste. It isn’t super strong, but it’s definitely there and is unpleasant. Annoyed I have to go find a new spf chapstick after all this time.

I have been using this type of chapstick as long as I can remember. Never had a problem until my last purchase. Suddenly, after applying, I have a chemical-like taste in my mouth that is hard to b get rid of. I may have to find a new product to use

This seems to be an unpopular opinion on this website, but I prefer the updated formula. I am more confident in the spf value because of the mix of filters, I find the texture softer, and the taste is less noticeable and less chemically.

So sad, why SPF 12?

Why change something that's not broken? More sunscreen was added for less SPF which makes no sense. This was my go-to and I constantly was purchasing because it was the only SPF lip balm that had no weird taste. Now this tastes disgusting and does not feel moisturizing. PLEASE go back to the SPF15 original formula, this one is horrible :(

So disappointed in this “new” formula. It’s awful. Been using chapstick for decades. It used to be my favorite. Looking for a new brand now. Deserves zero stars.

Awful, makes me nauseous. Why change the formula when the original has been just fine. I would give this new formula zero stars. I have been using this Chapstick longer than I can remember.

I've used this specific lip balm for probably 20+ years now, specifically because it didn't have a scent or flavor, and because it didn't have that waxy and oily texture that got lodged on the back of my tongue and in my throat. Something changed to the formula recently and not only is it NOT effective at keeping my lips from getting chapped, it now has all of the traits I've been avoiding all these years that I mentioned above. Unless the old formula comes back, I'm done with it and on the hunt for a new lip balm.

The new SPF 12 has 2 new sunscreens in it and it protects less. And is awful! I put some on in the middle of the night and my lips still tasted like sunscreen 5 hours later! I used to love this lip balm, not anymore!

Unless you like the taste of sunscreen do not buy this product. I have used Chap Stick moisturizer Original "flavor" for years. It was always my go to for lip balm. They have recently changed the formula and now it tastes of sunscreen. It is so horrible I am throwing all three tubes away. I would give zero stars if I could.
