When The Base Drops - 23 days ago
originally posted on DaVinci Baby
We discovered quickly that while this was great and easy in theory, there was something missing from this conversation kit. The first night our little slept on this bed, I flipped to my side (the whole idea of upgrading the bed from daybed toddler rail was so I could lay next to her until she fell asleep and then go to my own bed) and the bed slipped off the inner lip dropped into the floor. Thankfully grandpa had a quick fix. We cut a large piece of plywood into thirds and it’s now strategically laid across the lips at the top, middle, and bottom of the frame. The foundation and mattress sit on top of the plywood and everything is sturdy now, even for my little monkey jumping on the bed. In the future, it would be nice if the conversion kit included wooden slats. Otherwise, my husband is convinced we’ll just buy a regular full sized bed frame next time. (Daddy also dropped the mattress foundation on his foot twice putting it together- it really has to line up just so unless you put some wood under the base)

Read the instructions. You may need to remove the rails from the side panels! It wasn’t until o saw another review that I realized this. Also we added reinforcement slats and in the middle to support the mattress. Overall we’re happy but don’t give up. It was a chore to set up!

I brought the conversion kit, right after we got the crib as a gift . I’ve been asking my husband to put up the conversion since last month . Today is finally decides to assemble the twin bed and the hardware doesn’t fit at all. I’m so disappointed I was looking forward to setting up my daughter’s room.

Read the Crib Instructions!

For everyone complaining about missing hardware.... The pieces you need are part of the original crib build. There are four screws left over when you build the crib. It specifically states that those are for the crib conversion. I hope this clears up confusion for all of those poor reviews regarding missing hardware.

Just buy a new Twin bed

For the price it really should come with slats. If you don't mind going to buy slats from the hardware store then proceed in purchasing, otherwise just go buy a brand new bed.

Unclear Instructions

We are happy with the bed overall now that we have it together but I am rating it a three because the instructions are very unclear which caused the assembly to take much longer then needed because of deep google searches. First, if you are putting this bed together please note the foot board is what the front of the crib was, if you do not have that piece it will be nearly impossible to build this. We had kept that piece because I assumed we would need it later but no where in the instructions does it state that it just says "foot board". Second, you will need to disassemble the legs from the sides of the toddler bed pieces and reassemble them to the foot board in order for the holes to line up. Again, this was not stated anywhere in the instructions so I am putting it here to hopefully help someone else down the line. DaVinci please think about making your instructions clearer on these conversion kits.

I bought this about a month Ago i thought the conversion would come with the wood slats for the bed to rest on but it didnt . After paying for this and watching my child folded in the middle i ended up having to shop for pieces to fix the support issue. Next time i will just buy a whole new bed without conversion

Super Easy to Install

We personally had the “Meadow” collection crib, and the installation was quick. As far as mattress support we ended up getting a bunkie board, but I think a 4” low profile boxspring may have worked as well. Our 2 year old loves having a bigger bed.

Conversion kit doesn’t reach to the footboard! It also didn’t have holes in the boards! Quality control issues for sure. While we loved the crib and thought it was beautiful, it simply does NOT convert to a full size bed no matter how hard you try to make it work. Listen to all the reviews - buy a different crib!

I don’t typically write negative reviews….But this time I HAD TO, and I wish I had read and paid attention to the others. I had the crib and loved it…thought we’d love the conversion bed just as much. WRONG. The boxspring/mattress we bought(standard size!) did not fit on the rails-fell right through to the floor. Top of the bed measures 53” and the bottom 54 1/2”. Had to go and buy wood slats and drill nails into the skinny converter pieces to make this work. What a terrible design that doesn’t work. And for the price that it all is…! Outrageous! Not acceptable to have to go and spend more money to salvage this bed.

Unhappy dad

Same exact experience as the unhappy mom. Finally time to convert my kiddos toddler bed to a full size. Unpacked the conversion kit we got along with the crib (5789), start to work on putting it together, and yea…no holes in the foot board to attach the side rails to. I figured I had the wrong parts so I come to this website to find out this is just how davincibabt.com does you…”figure it out yourself.” I would not recommend this product to anyone. Useless, misleading, and essentially theft of my hard earned dollar.

Read the other reviews and use current crib legs!

You will be frustrated. Directions are terrible. First thing to do is remove crib sides and front. Take legs off crib sides. You will need to put them onto the footboard. That gives you something to connect the long side rails to. Take your time and look at it logically and you will figure it out. Be prepared to buy a box spring, slats, and mattress…

For all of the people leaving 1 star reviews: READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. It clearly states at the beginning, "Check the footboard and headboard before the assembly. The legs may need to be removed from crib side panels and re-assembled to the footboard and headboard." Super easy/fast install and it looks great!
