A: Palm oil has always been an ingredient in our Pure-Castile Bar Soap. Where as Palm Kernel Oil was added to our Liquid Soaps in 2015. Palm oil in particular has special qualities that make it ideal for use in our Bar Soaps: when saponified, it gives our Bar Soaps hardness and stability while maintaining a smooth and emollient lather, qualities that we have simply been unable to match using other oils. We do not choose to use palm oil because it is cheaper or more abundant; on the contrary, we have gone to great lengths to ensure that our fair trade & organic palm oil is sustainably harvested in a way that does not damage the environment. All of our palm oil comes from small-holder farms in Ghana, where oil palms have been grown for centuries, and where no new deforestation is occurring. We are constantly striving to improve sustainability and we support growers with organic methods for improving palm fruit yields – thus getting more oil out of the same amount of land. Q: Does this burn kids' eyes if used as shampoo?

A: Our Pure-Castile Soap is not tear-free. The “tear-free” characteristic is one that can only be achieved with synthetic non-soap detergents, and it’s not something we’re able to do given the simple formulation of our soaps. We do make a Baby Unscented Pure-Castile Soap, which is not tear-free, but is more gently formulated for sensitive skin. It contains no essential oils and has more saponified olive oil than the other scents, which makes it even more moisturizing. However, please take care to keep it out of the eyes, as all true soaps are irritating to the eyes.

Palm Oil Must Go

After decades of using and loving Dr. Bronner's castile, liquid soaps, I realize that I must stop. The addition of palm oil to the soap is the issue. Although Dr. Bronner's uses sustainable sources as well as limiting its plantations to West Africa and South America, that does not eliminate the problem. Palm oil is fungible. Its market price is determined by supply and demand. So long as I (or we) demand Dr. Bronner's soap, we demand palm oil and prop up its price. Palm oil plantations destroy habitat and threaten orangutan populations in SE Asia with extinction. If we lower demand, we lower expansion.
This liquid soap smells so wonderful.

A family member had been pushing me to get rid of the chemical laced soaps I've been using. I half expected this to be an inferior cleaning product as it has only natural ingredients. I was happily surprised how well this soap works. Lathers really well (wasn't expecting that), smells great. You can feel the crisp tingle. I'm a convert for sure!

Take a bottle of Peppermint and a bottle of Eucalyptus: take an empty bottle and pour 25% peppermint and 25% eucalyptus and 50% water. Oula! The only shower and shampoo soap you will ever need. Clears your sinuses and makes the bathroom smell great too.

This is the only soap I have or will use in 50 years. It is clean, smells great, no residue. Peppermint makes the whole bathroom smell great. I am 76 and have been in Florida sun daily for decades and my skin looks great. This is non drying. So concentrated that just add water to bottle every once in awhile. Lasts for months. Best deal there is.

I have been using Dr Bronners for over 60 years. When I was sent to VietNam, my mother, whom owned a health food store sent me Dr Bronners all the time. After a short time, she sent me many bottles for my fellow troops. There's no running water in the jungle but it rains all the time. That's how we showered. Of course the soap got us clean but there's magic in every bottle. See, it seemd to cleanse not only our bodies, but our souls as well. I have washed myself a million times, no bad reaction. I do my hair also, very clean and nice feeling, without that chemical feelings. I wash my clothes and dishes with it. It does everything better than expected except for one thing. It never runs out cause I always have more on hand. I hope this helps,don springer aka shooter

I've been using the peppermint liquid soap for awhile now, and I LOVE it!!! I have to go off of medication that is for schizophrenia, at least for a time, and so I ordered the lavender last week, because lavender is a natural calming agent. I still got peppermint because, I can't live without dr. Bronner's peppermint soap! And hopefully, the lavender will be a great help until I can get back on my meds.

As usual, Dr. Bronner’s products triumph all competition in the market. This peppermint-scented castile soap is probably my most repurchased item from the site. I found it’s effective for both personal use (acne-prone areas) and household use like laundry and dishes (diluted). It’s high-quality like all other DB products I’ve used, and has a potent peppermint scent so if you’re not a peppermint fan, I’d advise to choose a more subtle scent like Almond or Rose. Personally, I appreciate the unambiguous peppermint smell even more — especially with clothes.
