Earth Balance Original Buttery Spread is a butter alternative that offers all the deliciousness of butter without the dairy. This margarine spread substitute supports healthy cholesterol levels* when used as part of a healthy diet that is low in saturated fat and that includes exercise and other physical activity. Mold on top
I've been buying your products for a while now, and have been very happy until this last one I opened, and found mold growing on the top corner, even though the expiration date isn't until the end of October. I see no way to contact you other than this, so sorry for the bad review. Your product is not cheap, and therefore it's disturbing when I have to throw away an entire container.

Usually good, but found mold today
Bought it about two weeks ago and discovered mold all over the bottom of the container. no wonder I’ve been so sick the past two weeks. will not buy again until the issue is addressed.

Hard and un spreadable
I have been using this butter for sometime as I am lactose intolerant. I have always enjoyed it, even though it is a little pricey. However, a recent purchase of the product has left me, exasperated. It is a whipped product however, I can barely get it out of the container. It’s hard, un spreadable. I purchased another same container last week, it’s totally different. It spreads these easily as the others always have with the exception of this one container. The expiration date is not until April 2026. I am wondering what has gone on with this product. Yes, I could take it back to the store. Not sure which store I got it from though.

Now Contains PEA PROTEIN
Used to enjoy and be the safe butter option for our son- but they added pea protein, which is common for people with peanut allergies, so no longer safe. Also, texture and taste has changed :-(

Moldy butter
I bought this product two weeks ago and I went to open it and it has mold on it. My family loves this butter and we buy multiple packages at once. I’m just so disappointed in peeling off the white cover and finding mold underneath it dark green mold.

Earth Balance spreads are more susceptible to mold growth because there are no artificial preservatives in these products. Spreads should be stored between 35- and 42-degrees F to prevent mold growth. Warm/cold cycles will create condensation and mold growth. We'll pass this information on to our team. Target should stop selling this. Disgusting.
Don’t waste your money. I can’t even describe how gross this product is not just taste-wise but texture-wise. It’s almost like eating salty plastic — Earth Balance should be ashamed of themselves this is one of the worst vegan products I’ve ever eaten if not the worst. I normally use the Melt brand which tastes identical to real butter but tried this one and I’ll never buy anything from Earth Balance again because they lost my trust. Target should replace this awful product with the Melt brand.

Goodbye Old Friend
This reformulation has destroyed an amazing product. As a person with Celiac disease I’ve relied on Earth Balance for years as a staple in preparing and cooking meals for years. It has allowed me to continue creating foods both gluten and dairy free that were indistinguishable from traditionally based recipes. Sadly this is no longer possible. Whatever it was that prompted this decision you have abandoned the community that made it successful. Do they still teach the concept of throwing away the baby with the bath water in marketing and finance classes any longer? Your products will be greatly missed in my kitchens.

Horrible and cheap
When it first came it out - it was great. I was using the butter to make dairy free butter tarts - now it makes my recipe taste horrible and the pie crust dough doesn’t cook well at all. I do not recommend at all. Very low quality product.

Wishful thinking but o.k.
While an inferior product compared to the Earth Balance sticks, this tub does it's job. I do wish it was softer for easy spreading on toast -- we end up carefully scraping to get thin "curls" that can be spread.

Ruined product, too hard, tastes terrible.
I’ve been using this for well over a decade. But as all these other posters are saying you have ruined it! It’s now impossible to get out of the tub, doesn’t spread, makes holes in the bread and doesn’t taste good anymore. Even baking with it, it tastes horrible. I won’t buy it again unless you change back to the old formula. There are other alternatives out there. Whoever made this decision needs to be fired. I’d give it zero stars if I could.

Really rancid new version
Have loved this product for years - until recently. I had to throw out the entire tub because of the heavily RANCID taste. I thought it was a bad run, but a newer tub had the same strong, unpleasant taste. Now I see from other reviews it's not a batch problem, it's a product change. Too bad.

Do You Not Have Taste Testers??
I have used and loved this product for over a decade. I actually preferred it to real butter, and it was always a safe food that I could enjoy without worrying about getting sick. What happened?? The new formula is awful! What used to be an easy to spread, light, and slightly salted creamy flavor now tastes outright RANCID! I feel nauseous every time I use it. Sorry EB, you’ve lost a loyal customer!
