The ecological and social crisis is much more serious than our societies allow themselves to perceive, and its cultural roots run deep. It is therefore not surprising that the most attentive (or least denialist) people are once again raising questions about forms of spirituality. Can eco-spiritualities help us in the cultural transformation that urgently needs to be set in motion, or are they merely forms of escapism? In this essay, Jorge Riechmann, from a secular notion of spirituality (centered on the experience of interconnection and the task of decentering the ego) and from an interpretation of the crisis that identifies ecological overreach as a central phenomenon, seeks paths toward an ecosophy that is equal to the circumstances.

About the Author

Jorge Riechmann (Madrid, 1962) es vecino de Cercedilla (Sierra de Guadarrama). Vivió en Madrid, Berlín, París y Barcelona. Ensayista, escribe poesía, actúa en cuestiones de ecologismo social, enseña filosofía moral y política en Madrid (Departamento de Filosofía de la UAM) y codirige el máster en Humanidades ecológicas MHESTE. Ha traducido extensamente a René Char y a Heiner Mü, ller, fue redactor de las revistas En pie de paz y Mientras tanto. Dos extensos tramos de su poesía están reunidos en Futuralgia (poesía 1979 a 2000, Calambur 2011) y Entreser (poesía 1993 a 2016, Calambur 2021). Es autor de varias decenas de ensayos sobre cuestiones de ecología política y pensamiento ecológico. Su último poemario publicado es En el fondo del valle ha muerto Jorge Riechmann (Baile del Sol).
