Description

EPIC Provisions Animal Fats are a surefire way to turn ordinary dishes into something extraordinary. Grass-fed beef tallow is a staple cooking oil that works high-heat magic in the pan and has been cherished by generations of cooks since way before the discovery of vegetable oils. Use in place of butter to sear and fry all your favorite dishes from roasted sweet potatoes to golden crab cake to flakey biscuits that melt in your mouth. Another reason to push EPIC’s grass-fed beef tallow to the front burner? Its high concentration levels of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) may help prevent and fight cancer in humans, according to ongoing studies.

Animal cooking fats are an extension of EPIC’s Whole Animal Project, a commitment to honor each animal sourced by prioritizing maximum utilization. Time-tested by our great–great–great grandparents, we are bringing animal fats back into the kitchen where they belong!

Q: Can I use this as the beef tallow used in moisturizer for skin ?

submitted by Haylee - 6 months ago
  • A: Yes you can use it for a moisturizer

submitted byKrysta - 3 months ago
  • A: Yes, BUT you should render it first to get rid of impurities before putting it on your skin. You do this by putting it in a pan on the stovetop, letting it melt all the way, then strain it with a cheesecloth. Add jojoba oil to turn it into a lighter texture, and add essential oils for good smell.

Q: Does this need to be refrigerated? It doesn’t say anywhere on the bottle

Quality Control? Liquid yellow tallow

We bought this a couple weeks ago and the tallow was great. It was firm and white - like it should be. We received our shipment this weekend and the three jars of tallow are very bright yellow/orange and very much in a liquid state. What’s going on? Quality control?

I am not sure why all the bad reviews but I used it to make a dish that I always make with ground turkey and it greatly enhanced the flavor and it. It was delicious. Not sure I like that General Mills owns them so probably won't buy again.

Contains seed oils

Definitely is cut with seed oils. I’ve used grass fed beef tallow from a local farm which is rock solid and pure white. I make skin balm with it and overnight, tallow balm from the farm cures my rosacea. The same recipe with this tallow has inflamed my redness and clogged my pores, indicating presence of seed oils (beef talllw alone is non-comedogenic). So sad this brand has become corrupt since bought out by General Mills. Avoid at all costs.

Really disappointed in this product. Not solid, very grainy texture. Once I saw the "refrigerate after opening" on the label, I knew something was off. Well-sourced, high quality tallow doesn't need to be refrigerated and should be solid at room temperature. My body is not happy after cooking with this tallow, either. Did not react well. Going to buy from a family run farm instead (Hackamore Ranch).

This is not what I thought it would be. I wish I would have read the reviews prior to buying. It smells badly and ruined my eggs. The consistency seems wrong and the jar itself seemed to be not sealed properly. I do not recommend buying this product as it is expensive and you are then out that money. Very very disappointed in the bad quality of this tallow.

Product Changed, Cheapened & worsened.

I’m so disappointed that this brand has clearly changed the formulation of the beef tallow. For years, it was a clean white color & solid at room temp. Now, it’s yellowish and never solid, not even in FREEZING temperatures, which makes me think the new owners are cutting it with seed oils to gain more profit. This brand is no longer ceiling their product with a safety seal and the canning process that’s used is not an airtight one so the product lead out the side. Your retailers are offering refunds to customers who point out that this is clearly a changed product. So, the lost another customer. And there is no contact us form at the bottom of this page. So please, for the love of God don’t tell me to go to that like you do others. Just change the product back to it’s original form or label it properly.

I grew up on a farm. My grandma made our own tallow. She rendered fat all weekend sometimes. Some was a little runny, some varied in color. But all was good. We used the beefy smelling to cook steak, beef tips, ect. We used pork on pork or chicken, my point is. I love your product. I knew what I was getting. Beef tallow!!! I just wish I could buy a 5 gallon bucket of it. We have fish fries sometimes and need alot of it at times.

Quality tallow with taste that gets hidden by food

The one I got was white and good. No taste really, it doesn't overpower the food, personally it has a neutral taste like almost no taste which is good. I like the fact it is 100% grass fed natural healthy cow fat. How an animal lives and eats make a huge difference in the quality of the fat like what percentage of it is omega 6 and omega 3. Bad ones have high omega 6 and low omega 3.

This is NOT beef tallow. Smells like it’s cut with rancid canola oil, is mushy, not firm, and has yellowish color. I will be switching to Paleo Valley beef tallow.

Poorly rendered Tallow

This Tallow is very poorly rendered. Has a strong beefy smell and a yellow color, and a gelatinous texture, leading me to believe the gelatin and sediment impurities were not rendered out.

More like GHEE than pure TALLOW

1 out of 5 stars
Mya L - 7 months ago
originally posted on epicprovisions.com

I wholeheartedly feel as if this tallow is not pure tallow, because my grandfather raised cattle on his farm and when they would basically use the cattle for butchering, they would use every part and tallow was never like that so I’m not sure why the tallow smells like clarified butter, a.k.a. ghee, but it absolutely does smell like it and it just does not feel like real tallow and the color is a little yellow, so I just don’t feel confident that this is truly the product it says it is. Based on the reviews that I’ve read, I am not the only one that feels this way so I think that’s a problem for your product line Epic.

Terrible smell and taste. I cooked one dish with it, and the smell permeated through the whole house. It was disgusting. Not what tallow should taste/smell like.
