A: Hey there Kat! We agree, the Gel Couture Top Coat was made to give the Gel Couture nail enamels a tough, long lasting finish with loads of shine, but it can be use over any nail enamel.

A: Hi there L! The Gel Couture Top Coat is part of the long wear Gel Couture collection. This long wear top coat may actually take an extra minute longer to dry compared to other top coats. As a rule, the longer the wear, the longer a nail product takes to set.

I've been using this topcoat for around 5 years but the last few bottles I've bought have been really off. I think Essie must have quietly changed the formula or something cause all the reasons I used to gladly drop 13 bucks on this every couple months are no longer present. It used to be perfect- thin consistency, dried fast and shiny, no shrinkage- but now it's the consistency of honey, shrinks like crazy, and takes much longer to dry. I had to add polish thinner to the last few bottles before I could use them. I guess I'll be on the hunt for a new tc again after I finish this latest bottle. Ugh, STOP REFORMULATING GOOD PRODUCTS! >:(

This is the only top coat I will buy. It can last up to 2 weeks, dries quick, gives a nice shine, and strengthens my nails. Idk what more I could ask for! Hands down the best I’ve used.

I used this on sheer fantasy colour and after some hours I saw that it had shrunk. 2 days later I was able to peel off the nail polish in its entirety. I am not satisfied with the gel couture collection.

This dries much quicker than OPI’s top coat. It has a pretty, glossy finish and isn’t too gloopy. I used it to make my salon gel manicure last longer. Very happy!

Maybe if you apply it with the top coat in the morning and then don’t touch anything else FOR THE REST OF THE DAY, your manicure will still look good. The polish got all mushed overnight, despite giving it 3 hours to set. Also this color needs a minimum of 3 coats to not be completely translucent on the nail.

The color Sheer Fantasy should be a sheer pink nail polish. However, Gel Couture is also available in opaque pinks like the shade Matter of Fiction. Nude shades are usually too warm on me. Even Fairy Tailor is a too warm. This shade is perfectly “my nails but better” with just 1 coat. And the formula has excellent durability. I can get a whole week without chips, peeling, or scratches. The brush shape even lets clumsy me get a near perfect polish even with my non-dominant hand.

I have Sheer Fantasy and Fairy Tailor in the gel line, and love both; but Fairy Tailor is more peach and opaque than this shade. Sheer Fantasy is a truly sheer polish (no shimmer) with a “your nails but better” look that’s absolutely perfect for everyday wear. It looks great on long nails in particular. One coat is barely visible, but two coats is enough to give the impression of a very lightly pink French manicure (but it’s not opaque enough to hide stains or imperfections in the nail, so be aware). It’s such a classic look, perfect for a Grace Kelly style outfit. If you don’t need color with your outfit, and just want to look like you were born with perfect nails, this is your shade. It’s quite similar to Mademoiselle from the regular Essie line, with a very faint milkiness after two coats. Gorgeous. Note: I have cool olive skin.

This worked well as a top coat, but I didn't notice any measurable difference between this "gel" top coat and other regular top coats. It lasted about the same amount of time as regular nail polish.

thought I was buying gel polish, based on the opaque bottle and the name "gel couture" I wanted gel polish, but instead got more regular nail polish. Like, it's a good top coat, but it isn't gel, and that's what I wanted. I shouldn't have to do a google deep-dive to figure out that a product isn't what it says on the packaging.

Removal is just as easy, use your polish remover just like you would with a classic nail color.

This is the worse top coat I have ever used. It takes an eternity to dry, and once dry, it immediately starts peeling off in sheets just like the cheap peely nail polish for little girls. And it’s shockingly expensive for such a garbage product. I have never bought pricey nail polish before, and all the Essie stuff - base, polish, top coat - are the worst I have ever used. So save your money and pick up a $2 bottle of cheap nail polish, and it will yield the same results.

I will be using this forever now that I see it works. I can't get fake nails or gel due to my job so I'm stuck with regular polish that only last 3 days. Well today is my 5th day and I see no signs of wear on my REGULAR POLISH nails and I'm very impressed!! I finally found something that can make my nails AND money last!

I’m allergic to most salon nail products so I try A LOT of store bought products. This gel line is by far my favorite. If I don’t use a base coat I can almost make it to two weeks! That’s bananas! My only criticism is the bottle shape, I hate it. It’s hard to hold between my knees when my nails are wet. You know what I mean!!

I was super excited for this. I bought the kit that came with a color and top coat, specifically to try them both! The nail polish is beautiful. I would have no idea how the top coat works because it was separated and the applicator ruined. What a waste of excitement and money!!
