Q: Does this unit need the shelf low towards the bottom to keep it stable? I'm hoping to put it over a dorm refrigerator, not having the refrigerator on the shelf, so the first shelf would be above the refrigerator.

A: Although technically these two six-story bookshelves can be combined for use, with the shelves stacked on top of each other, the center of gravity would shift upwards. However, for safety reasons, we do not recommend this approach.
