Description
Featuring a low-profile, contemporary design, the First Alert PR710 Slim Battery-Operated Photoelectric Smoke Alarm provides the same protection as a standard smoke alarm while taking up only a fraction of the space. This slim smoke alarm uses an ultra-reliable photoelectric sensor to detect smoke from slow-burning, smoldering fires and features a patented smoke entry system that allows a direct path to the sensor for more reliable detection. The 10-year lithium-ion battery provides continuous power for up to a decade, and the alarm requires no hardwiring for installation. The simple twist-lock mounting system installs easily onto a wall or ceiling, while the tamper-resistant locks help prevent removal of the battery to keep the alarm secure. A loud 85-decibel alarm sounds when smoke is detected, and a convenient test/silence button lets you easily check alarm function and mute false alarms.

Easy to get a replacement from First Alert

These do tend to “die” after a year or so BUT the company will replace them as long as you keep your receipt and the unit (they need the model number and date of manufacture). They look nice and do work well. I think because the sensor is very sensitive, if your house is dusty or you have a strong fan nearby, and you don’t vacuum or dust the units regularly, the sensor gets triggered. The number to call is 1-800-323-9005. Good luck!

10 year warranty and battery but all of mine are going off like crazy and it has been 1 year. 1 of them was going off and broke after only a month. Clearly these are all defective.
Why oh why did I buy these

You'd think I would have learned from having one of these die within a year after installing it in my last house, but I stupidly purchased them for my new (to me) house in November 2023 - so less than 3 months ago - and tonight one went bad and I had to take it down and deactivate it. One of mine is too high up for me to reach without a tall ladder, and at 69 years old living alone, there's no way I can possibly deal with it if it dies, too. I will be having my handyman, who installed it, remove that one ASAP. I'll replace it with the other major brand, with a removeable battery, and have it installed lower so I can reach it with my small stepladder.
Dont buy

Purchased in March 2023 and started chirping Two times 3am morning after Not even a year Yet! It's the "low battery" single chirp, not the end-of-life triple chirp ‼️you guys have to replace the whole thing either way. I'm massively disappointed. ☹️😮💨

One of the most terrifying things in life is being woken up from a dead sleep by the ear piercing beeping from a smoke alarm. In July 2021 I purchased two of these alarms. Earlier this year one started going off randomly in my dining room off my kitchen. No smoke. No fire. No reason for it to go off. It did it again a few hours later. I shut it off and thought I just got a bad unit. This past Friday at 6AM I was awaken by a dead sleep by three beeps from the one in my bedroom. Again, no smoke or fire to be found. I wasn't even sure it happened and thought maybe I had dreamed it. Then again, 5 AM this morning is starts again but kept beeping. I don't recommend these. I don't know if they are flawed or what. I've replaced them with ionization type detectors from another brand.

I bought 4 Jan 2020. They are all dead. They have a Nov 5 2019 date. I thought First Alert was the premier brand.

I bought two of these in November 2020 (manufacture date January 2020) and one has started chirping after only a year and a half. It's the "low battery" single chirp, not the end-of-life triple chirp, although for this model there's functionally no difference - you have to replace the whole thing either way. I'm massively disappointed.

I’ll echo other reviews and say these are terrible. I bought 4-5 for various rooms in my home. Less than 3 years later I’ve already had 3 alarms bite the dust. One of which in my infant son’s room in the middle of the night. These alarms are terrible and I couldn’t recommend them any less than I do. Buy something else.

Garbage. Bought last month and tonight at 10:45pm it started going off for no reason. The deactivate switch did nothing. I had to smash it apart and cut the wires inside.

No Batteries to Worry About

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This smoke alarm is thinner than our previous one so it doesn't stick out so much on the wall. It was super easy to install and the best part of all was not having to put in batteries. It comes with a lithium battery installed, so all you have to do is activate it when you put the detector up. There are no beeps from low batteries which is the most annoying thing ever. It has not needed to beep because we haven't had any smoke or fires but I did check it to see how it would sound when activated. It also has a way to notify you when the battery does get low and you would need to replace the device because it says you can't replace the battery. After 10 years I would want to replace the detector anyway so that works out pretty good for us. It says it has a photoelectric sensor that makes it easier to detect fires and those that are smoldering. I am very pleased with this so far.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Replaced my old one with this new one and did ok for a while but went off for no reason in the middle of the night. You talk about scary for a false alarm. I was not happy at all and put my old one back up. Did ok for about a month but should last longer than that for sure. Tried replacing the battery all though it was a new one in the first place but just didn't wanna go through that again so I just left the old one up since I've had no trouble out of it. I would not recommend this for the safety of my home

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The First Alert battery powered slim smoke detector is the low profile, long lasting battery detector I’ve been looking for! It is less of an eye sore with the low pro design and blends in nicely with your ceiling. The long lasting battery saves getting up on the step ladder every few months to change out a battery. It is a reliable smoke detector so why not look good too. I recommend for your business or household fire safety needs. The photoelectric sensor has the technology you need for something like a fire that you don’t want.
No worries

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am in the process of changing all my smoke detectors over to the ones with the 10 year battery. I think every smoke detector that has batteries starts to chirp in the middle of the night. There no worries with this one. Just test it every month and you are good to go. The installation was straightforward and simple to switch out the alarms. The only thing I wish this also had a carbon monoxide detector in it as well. Other than that this does the job. We also haven't had any false alarms either.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a good smoke detector, it works well and doesn’t go off for no reason when you accidentally burn food, obviously if there’s a lot of smoke from burnt food it will go off but when you burn something and you can smell it but there’s no smoke it usually doesn’t go off. I would definitely buy more for the other parts of my house to make them all the same brand but this one is a good buy and definitely recommend it. If you are looking for a good smoke detector and don’t like when they go off from burnt food this is the one.
