Praise for First Lie Wins "Buckle up. First Lie Wins features some of the best cat and mouse suspense I've read in years, while serving up plenty of heart along this wild ride. I'm still breathless."
--Lisa Gardner, #1 New York Times bestselling author of One Step Too Far "What a box of tricks! First Lie Wins flickers past like a shadow-play: just when you think you've worked out what you're seeing, the shapes shift, the scene transforms, and -- hold on -- maybe you had it wrong a moment ago? Cool and clever and full-on fun, the sort of slippery high-stakes now-you-see-me-now-you-don't thriller that few novelists are bold enough to attempt these days. Pick it up, please. This is a good one."
--A.J. Finn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the Window and End of Story "First Lie Wins is a high-stakes thriller that brilliantly explores identity and love, truth and deception. "First Lie Wins is the most suspenseful game of deception I've ever read.... Ashley Elston peeled back layer upon layer of a carefully crafted plot, revealing a series of twists and reveals I never saw coming. Brilliant!"

Best book I have read in a while. Some parts are hard to get through bc it does jump around a timeline. If you are able to read in a quiet place and keep up, it is actually a VERY well written book. The main character may seem to be confused but just read it all the way through and you will see she is the real mastermind. Great read! Can't stop thinking about it and am desperately hoping for a sequel. Trying to find a similar book now seems impossible.

I honestly don’t know why this book has such great reviews. I am normally a quick reader and can finish a good book in a day, two max. It took me 3 days to get to the half way point (only like 335 or so pages total). I skipped from the middle of the book to the last few chapters just to read the ending. I’ve read over 15 books in two months this summer, and it’s rated last for me in my opinion.
Will keep you guessing!!

I bought this book for my secret sister. I ended up buying this for myself too. I can’t wait to reveal myself to my secret sister so that we can share our thoughts about the book. I look for the Reese Witherspoon picks.

Twists and turns! Many books I read involve plots anyone could think up, but this book... I would have NEVER thought of this plot! I read this book so fast! I was totally emersed in Evie's life the entire time I was reading. I thought I had things figured out by page 190, but I was pleasantly surprised to find I was wrong! I soared through the rest of the book just loving every minute! Read this book!

I have a gift for you. Here's your first read of the new year. Ashley Elston's First Lie Wins (I can't believe it's her adult debut!) is a suspenseful, slick, high-octane thriller with a hidden heart, guaranteed to give you whiplash. I am seriously obsessed with this book. Evie Porter is a con artist and one of her boss' top assets. Her current mark is her "boyfriend" Ryan Sumner. Evie's number one rule is no getting attached, except this time she's starting to fall for Ryan. She knows that something about the job is different this time. After last time, Evie will have to stay a step ahead if she doesn't want to be the one conned. This story is totally immersive. It's fast paced, never boring. Everything is perfectly plotted and there are more twists and turns than a roller coaster. Evie is a cunning and sharp MC. She's been screwed over, but somehow she's still ten steps ahead. The flashbacks are just as riveting as the rest of the story (can we please have a book just about Evie's past, Ashley?). And the ending is oh-so-satisifying. This book has one of the most imaginative games of cat and mouse I've ever had the pleasure of reading. I'm still wishing I was twisted up in its pages. I will confidently go out on a limb here and say that First Lie Wins will be in my top ten reads for 2024. Thank you to PENGUIN GROUP Viking - Pamela Dorman Books, Ashley Elston, and Netgalley for an advance digital copy.
