well I know this is a great product but I bought for pickup intending to give as a gift and it was missing the hot sauce. didnt find out till hours later when we got home. Will attempt a return/replacement tomorrow. very disappointed

First, the packaging is adorable- the vibrant colors and design make you feel like you’re being pampered with an experience rather than just food. The little tobasco bottle is so cute, and pairs nicely with both flavors. This is a great work snack! The fish is very flavorful and packed in high quality oil. I ended up using the oil in my lunch later on because I didn’t want to waste it. The texture of the fish is moist and the taste is fresh. I like the variety that you get too. I highly reccomend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you are a smoked fish lover this is a great set for you! It is not dried out fish but it it is in oil and very flavorful. The mackerel has chili flakes in the olive oil so it is a bit spicy but the rainbow trout is not. It tastes a little like beef jerky. The Tabasco sauce is so tiny but can add some punch to the flavor . It’s a high calorie snack but also high protein and healthy!

The packaging is extremely adorable and the smoked rainbow trout and smoked mackerel taste amazing, tender, and full of flavor. I like adding them to my salads, and they are also delicious over rice. It even comes with the tiny hot sauce, which is perfect for the rice dishes. The beautiful packaging would make a lovely holiday gift. I highly recommend it.

Glad I picked this up and the fish is absolutely delicious. I only tried the smoked rainbow trout and I inhaled the tin, no crackers needed. The trout was moist but not mushy and flaked easily with my fork. I’m excited to try the mackerel and I like the included recipe card. I am looking forward to trying more Fishwife products!

Somehow they are able to lock in so much flavor into these while preserving some texture to the fish so it doesn't taste mushy. My favorite is the mackerel with chili flakes. It's not really spicy. The chili flavor is delicious. This set also come with a cute tiny bottle of hot sauce

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] What a cute gift set! It'd make a great hostess gift. Like all Fishwife products the packaging design is cute and functional. I will save the box and use it to store my Fishwife hoard. The fish itself was tender, rich and flavorful. The smoked mackerel with chili flakes was not too spicy. I loved the inclusion of the mini Tabasco bottle with the custom Fishwife label. However if I have anything to complain about it'd be that it is far too small an amount of hot sauce for two tins of fish.

We love tinned fish as a snack, but this came with a recipe card that had a bowl and a dip, both of which we made, and it really took the fish to the next level! What a treat and great surprise to have a full, gourmet meal idea. The first two photos show the rice bowl, which we supplemented with some other toppings, and the third photo is the dip, which we used sour cream for. Both were delicious! The box itself is very nice, colorful and sturdy, but bigger than it needs to be so it’s a little underwhelming to see what’s inside once you open it. Still, I highly recommend this!

The smoked rainbow trout is my favorite and has a great smokey flavor! The smoked makrel is very tastey too and the chili flakes give it just the right amount of spice and flavor! Both fish are fantastic but I like the Mackerel the most. The Tabasco is kind of unnecessary, the Mackerel is already a little spicy. I think the gift box should come with some crackers or something else. Fishwife canned fish is the best I've ever had, so it's a great gift for fish lovers.

When you open the box, it is slightly disappointing seeing the small size of each tin. The mackeral was smoky with a good heat. The trout was also flavorful. The Tabasco didn't really add to the set. Overall, great tasting product but would not purchase again due to the price point and what you actually get.

Granted it is a very niche gift (like who besides me wants to receive canned fish and a random bottle of hot sauce for the holidays), but that actually makes it kind of funny and thoughtful to gift to a fish lover. The packaging is great quality (I’m keeping the outer box to reuse for something else). And of course the fish quality is great. Very flavorful and tasty, and even comes with a recipe card with suggested ways to eat each tin.

This stuff tastes almost freshly caught as it is preserved well. The flavor combos go so well together. This is a really cute gift set for someone who loves fish. The ingredients of each item are simple with no artificial preservatives or unnecessary additives and I love that they give a description of how each fish has been prepared. It also includes a recommended recipe for each tin to enhance the eating experience. I agree with their “world’s tastiest tinned fish” claim as they were both delicious! I would compare the quality to that of authentic Portuguese tinned fish (which is world renowned). Although it is pricey, it is 100% worth it for what you’re getting. The packaging is beautiful and the outside box is just as beautiful as the two boxes inside. The fish in each tin is in oil so you have to be careful when opening the tin not to spill the oil. Both the smoked rainbow trout and the smoked mackerel are flaky and delicious. The mackerel has chili flakes in the oil which I worried would be too hot but it was not it was the perfect amount of spice. Both of the fish were delicious. This is a great gift that even comes with a mini hot sauce for those who like a little heat!

I want to say that fishwife idnt worth the money, but honestly my kids love it and eat it without mayo or additions, so I see the value in knowing they love it and they’re eating a high protein, no junk dinner. Both were a little Smokey in flavoring which was a nice touch.

In all honesty, I haven’t made the recipes so those I cannot speak to but the fish I sure can. I am not someone who cares for really spicy foods and luckily this is the perfect amount of heat already included in the one tin of mackerel - and if you want more heat they give you the little tobasco to kick it up another level or two. The other tin of mackerel I found to be slightly more salty - likely because it didn’t have the bit of chili flakes to balance the flavor. I found it all to be delicious and something I would not only buy for others but buy for myself again.

You can tell the difference in the oil and texture of the fish. The smoked flavor of the rainbow trout and mackerel is incredible and adds so much! My husband hates canned fish and loved the smoked rainbow trout! He said he couldn’t taste that “canned fish flavor” like a normal can/tin fish. Of course the packaging of this is so cool too and I’m really impressed with the gift box and the adorable mini Tobasco sauce. Would make a fun gift to a friend or yourself!
