A: Hi Kimie0622 - Great question! This is designed to put this item on the side of a bed or a ledge. The screws loosen, you place the item on the bed within the tabs that are on the underside of the tray, and then you should re-tighten the screws. We hope this helps! - Jerith

submitted byPhilip - 5 years agoTarget staff supportA: It's designed to be installed over a ledge but with a workaround it can be installed against a vertical surface. You need to utilize a piece of material to be your ledge for the shelf to be attached to and then fasten the ledge to the wall.

I ordered three of these and all three of them sloped downward as soon as I hung them up. I see that another review mentions this happening after a while, but ours was defective right out of the box. The hinge that holds the tray upright (while not folded down) is too loose so half of the tray hangs down a little bit. It's enough to make lamps, cups, etc. slide off of the shelf. I've tried to rig it bit and may add shelf brackets, but I would not recommend these at all.

My daughter just got a loft bed and this has been AWESOME for her water bottle and flashlight (and her teeth for the tooth fairy). Please read the description for the width of board that this can clamp to…it seems limited. Also, the color is not super attractive.

The nightstand works well, but after continued use the hinge that allows it to fold down gets worn out and causes the nightstand to slope down- eventually my water bottle would go crashing to the floor every time i put it on it and i had to find somewhere else to put it. The hinge isnt made with screws or anything so theres no way to tighten the hinge or anything to fix it. I got it last year and never got close to the 15 lb weight limit.

works great in my dorm. the metal is nice so it doesn’t fall apart easily. it is pretty self explanatory when it comes to usability and it was great to have. it did start to bow a little after 9 months of use but nothing that made me wish i didn’t buy it. good product and i definitely recommend it for anyone living in a dorm setting for a small bedside table

This shelf is perfect for my college dorm! My bed has a ton of wires underneath so other shelves don't fit, but since this one only connects at each of the ends it works! It can hold a lot, I have my alarm clock, filled hydro flask, earbuds, phone, clip lamp, and snacks and it doesn't bend! I don't use the folding part, but I've had no problems with it coming apart or stuff falling off. It does hurt when you bump your head on it though. Perfect for dorm, especially beds where a shelf is unable to attach the whole way across, and can hold everything I need! Definitely buy if looking for one for college. Also it comes assembled and is easy to attach to bed, you only need to tighten/loosen screw things. I just wish it wasn't a folding one since that could make it less sturdy over time and I never fold it down.

Works great on my bed in a studio apartment, I find it immeasurably useful, it's my mouse pad, side table, charging stand (no USB ports), coaster.. and still small enough to be out of the way when navigating around the bed. You'd be surprised at how handy this tray really is!

Very thick and heavy gauge all metal tray. While it's very sturdy, it will dent and scratch wood (bed) railing without additional protection (such as some fabric) due to its weight and metal surface. In addition, the top ledge of the tray is rather sharp. While it won't cut your skin, it is not comfortable touch in the dark.
