Dodge gradient results
Have been using my 840 for many rides. Past few months the gradient display has stopped working. Uphills with negative gradients, downhills otherwise but not all the time. Cannot find a fix.

I would recommend contacting our cycling support team at the following link: http://ms.spr.ly/6428sHNfw They'll be able to take a closer look into those gradient results for you. -MR

Awkward menu layout and altimeter doesn’t work
Overall, this is a good unit. I like the amount of features that it has in the battery life. But I don’t like, is the clumsy/awkward menu layout that takes time to find things. I’ve had this edge 840 for about a month now, and still have trouble navigating certain areas. Today try to do a benefit charity ride in the rain and the altimeter stopped working a few miles in. Not the end of the world as the navigation still worked. But this seems like an issue that should have been fixed in the last version and it’s kind of frustrating when you are trying track stats and plan efforts on climbs. Wish I had known about the altimeter issue before I purchased.

The device crashes
When using the map the device crashes, it shuts down and after a while it turns back on. It's very frustrating as this happens almost every time you try to look at the streets around you, making it impossibile to find your curse if you get lost because the device keeps shutting down

Overly complicated with unhelpful manual
There is no doubt that the edge 840 is feature packed but it is unnecessarily complicated to set up and too prescriptive in terms of defaulting to workouts and performance rather than having those as a choice. Yes there are useful features but basic data should be there out of the box with anything else a matter of choice.

Nice computer
Nice computer with a lot of features (more than I have delved in to). It synchs easily with my iPhone via the Garmin app. The battery easily lasted for a 10 hours day ride at Leadville.

Informative
A lot of Information to gather after a ride. Yes, it's more than I would ever really need, but it is nice to see all the metrics.

Solid Data Tracking
Been using this for a couple of years now, easy to navigate the menu, Works GREAT even in low temps (single digits). Battery life is fantastic in all temps. Some adjustments should be made to get this a 5 star. No way to auto power off (only sleep) so if you leave the unit to download your activity and forget then the battery goes dead. Older units had this feature. 2nd fault - once you enter an activity you have to lock the screen to keep sweat or rain from changing your layout. This should be automatic, seems the opposite. Last thing they should build in Bikes and Gear for you to choose in an activity rather than needing to go to the app afterwards to choose this. All in All I highly recommend Garmin Edge GPS units! these items are small inconveniences.

Great bike computer but takes a long time to figure out how to set up the screens. Definitely better battery life than some other computers out there. I like the maps.

Fantastic for Anyone
It is the perfect bike computer for the casual or experience. The screen is the perfect size to be able to see it, but not too large to where it looks like a phone on the front of the bike, but not too small where you cannot read the data screen as well. It pairs very easily with any external devices, such as lights or radars great recommendation would buy again.

Got this for long rides so I don't have to rely on the battery life of a watch or phone. Great battery life. Screen is plenty big for me. Easy to load routes. Touch screen allows you to zoom in/out easily while riding. The colors on any of the map settings are hard to see though. It's difficult to distinguish route from background. Also you can't turn the screen off, which can be distracting.

Solid GPS
This is an upgrade coming from a Wahoo, with good customization in the app or on the unit itself. The app takes some time to learn to navigate, but once you do it's easy. The one thing holding it back from 5 stars is the lack of customization on the map screen. Would love to be able to see the map and my power guide at the same time.

I have used Garmin products, such as smartwatches and cycling computers, for over four years now. After using my Garmin 840, all I can say is that I am impressed. One feature that I really enjoyed, compared to my old Garmin computer, is the music control screen that allows the user to change songs and control the volume. I also enjoy the customization available on different riding profiles, such as mountain biking and road biking. Overall, it is a great product for both entry-level and experienced riders.

This has been a great bike computer and I haven't even dived in to all the features yet. Easy to set up and use, and easy to turn off all the beeping.

Great looking data, so little time!
Upgraded from the Edge 130. Huge jump from 130, I'm talking going from riding a scooter, to jumping on ZX-6R (if not familiar with motorcycles it's really really powerful) Practically a smart phone on your bike. Actually, it almost completely eliminates the need for to have a phone on you, other than a phones primary function as a communication device. UI is a bit finicky with the touch screen, however it's intuitive and bright enough to be viewed across any conditions without ruining the battery life. Which is good, but could be better. I'd opt for the solar option if making the decision again.

The 840 is an amazing upgrade!
Garmin still has the problem of either wanting to interact more than it should or being to complex at very very simple things. Overall great upgrade from my previous Edge 530
