Q: I had my SD card in, I was trying to save them to my Windows computer, but the autoplay wouldn't show. So I took my SD card out, and when I put it back, my photos were gone. How do I get them back?

submitted by Photos deleted - 26 days ago
  • A: Hi, thanks for reaching out about GEMS Retro Digital Camera. It's a frustrating and surprisingly common problem when photos disappear from an SD card. The fact that the pictures disappeared when you took the card out and put it back in suggests a few possible scenarios, but the good news is there's a good chance you can get them back. Here's a breakdown of what likely happened and the steps you can take to recover your photos. What May Have Happened When you took the SD card out while the camera was connected to the computer, it's possible that the computer was still in the middle of reading the card's file directory. This interruption could have corrupted the file system, making the photos invisible to the camera and your computer. The files are likely still on the card, but the camera and computer can't "see" them anymore. How to Get Your Photos Back (Step by Step) Step 1: Stop Using the SD Card Immediately. This is the most critical step. Do not take any more photos with the camera using this card. Do not format the card. Every new file you write to the card can overwrite the sectors where your old photos are stored, making them permanently unrecoverable. Step 2: Connect the SD Card to a Computer Using a Card Reader. Do not try to connect the camera directly to the computer with the cable. Since that method was not working, it's a potential point of failure. Use a dedicated SD card reader. Most modern laptops have a built-in SD card slot, or you can buy an inexpensive USB card reader. Step 3: Use Data Recovery Software. This is your best chance to get the photos back. Data recovery software is designed to scan the physical memory of the card and find file fragments, even if the file system is corrupted or the files have been "deleted." There are many reliable data recovery programs, and most offer a free trial that lets you scan the card to see if your photos are recoverable before you have to buy the full version. Some popular and well-regarded options include: Recuva (Windows): A very popular and user-friendly option with a free version. Disk Drill (Windows & Mac): A professional-grade tool that is highly rated for photo recovery. PhotoRec (Windows, Mac & Linux): A free, open-source tool. It's not as user-friendly as others but is extremely powerful at recovering a wide variety of file types. General Steps for Using Data Recovery Software: Download and install the software on your computer (not on the SD card). Plug the SD card into your computer's card reader. Launch the software and select your SD card from the list of drives. Run a deep scan. This may take some time depending on the size of the card. Once the scan is complete, the software will show you a list of all recoverable files. Look for your photos (they will likely be in .JPG or .PNG format). Select the photos you want to recover and save them to a different location on your computer (not back onto the SD card). Q: How do you suggest transferring pictures that are stored locally on the camera with a Mac? I have tried multiple cables with adapters and cannot seem to connect to the camera

submitted by cwilkers - 3 months ago
  • A: Hi cwilkers, thanks for reaching out about the GEMS Retro Digital Camera USB Cable Connect the Camera to Your Mac: Use the USB-C charging/data cable that came with the camera. Plug one end into the camera and the other end into an available USB-C port on your Mac. If your Mac only has USB-A ports (older models) and your camera's cable is USB-C on both ends, you might need a USB-C to USB-A adapter. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day between 7 am and 11 pm CST.

submitted by Larkin - 4 months ago

Not working at all

I'm actually so mad. I bought this little camera thinking it'd be so cute to use, but the thing won't even charge. Even using the cord that came with the camera, it doesn't charge. I plug it in for hours at a time, and the little red indicator light only stays on for about 3 minutes before the light turns off. Even after leaving it "charging" for 4+ hours it doesn't work. If I could give zero stars I would. I even bought a microSD card for it too, but if I can't get it to turn on what's the point. This stupid thing cost more than the SD card I bought. I want a refund so bad.

Poor battery life

Really cute idea and concept, got some cute pictures out of it but the battery only lasts like 45 minutes maximum. That’s from a full charge having it on standby ready to take pictures, not actually recording anything. You get what you pay for

Packaged with weong cable.

Includes the wrong cable. The camera REQUIRES a USB-C. That’s literally the only thing that will fit it. BUT it comes packaged with a different plug altogether, which doesn’t fit it. Good luck if your kid opens this up at camp.

I wanted to love it...

Oh how I wanted to love this little camera. It was compact, cute, and had so many awesome functions. I know the "in" look is old but the quality of these pictures when you download them is so incredibly poor. For perspective, the first picture is using an old Sony Cybershot 6.0 MP camera. The second picture is a picture taken off of GEMS. As cute, small, and portable as it is, save your time and money and invest in a different camera.

Only used it once and took three photos. After that, all the buttons were stopped working and the camera couldn’t be changed. Never could be turned on again after ran out of battery.

Hello! Thank you for reviewing our product. It sounds like the plastic covering over the battery leads might be the issue. Please open the battery door, remove the battery, take off the plastic shield covering the leads, and replace the battery. Then, charge it with the cable, and it should work once the battery is charged. Please feel free to reach out to Target Guest Services at guest.service@target.com for further assistance.

Not bad, but dont take it seriously

The camera is obviously quite small, about as small as a credit card and the camera does well for it’s 15 dollar price tag, it takes a good amount of photos, it can most definitely be a toy for kids but if you want something better? Use your phone

Perfect kids’ camera!

My kids got this camera for Easter while we were on vacation and it was the perfect gift! They loved taking pictures and videos of whatever they liked. It comes with a strap so they can put it around their neck when they aren’t using it, so it doesn’t get broken. I also liked that they weren’t constantly asking for my phone to take their photos/videos. I have not attempted to print any pictures yet, but did buy a memory card. Such a fun gift for any kids!

Cute retro toy

My three year old daughter enjoyed using this, even though she’s never seen a real point and shoot camera that this is based on. She likes taking pictures of her stuffies, and I like that she no longer has to use my phone. It is tough enough to withstand her use, and the strap allows her to carry it on her neck. Definitely used as a toy, as the quality I’m seeing on the display doesn’t make me think it’s worthwhile to buy a memory card required for saving and transferring (only using the internal memory currently). There are cute little “filters” and frames for the shots that were a nice touch.

Awesome!

This digital camera is so cute! I absolutely love that it’s rechargeable, batteries are such a hassle! I can’t wait to put this in my purse and bring on trips so I can take photos with it but also my 7 year old could easily use it so we can see things from his point of view

Kid-Friendly Camera with Cool Features and a Few Flaws

This is a nice little camera. I’d say it’s great for teens and younger kids, though it’s a bit fragile. My daughter took it on her 8th grade college tour trip and it did the job. Pros: It’s functional, the screen is nice, it has both front and back cameras, comes with pre-installed filters, the video recorder is actually nice and much better than the photos (1080P), it’s rechargeable, and it comes in different colors. Cons: The picture quality isn’t great (only 3 MP). It can take about 100 photos without a memory card, but I couldn’t download those pictures from the camera. It also doesn’t connect to my iPhone. It would be nice to transfer photos directly to my phone, but that’s not a huge issue. Overall: I would recommend this camera. It’s a fun, budget-friendly option and would make a great gift. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to buy a microSD card to record videos or download pictures—you can’t record without one. Honestly, you get what you pay for.

digital camera with retro vibe

Retro design modern digital camera. It does have a SMALL amount of memory, but really it requires a memory card for full functionality. The quality of photos with this camera is lower than most phones these days, so this might be best suited for someone that doesn't want to use their phone (or doesn't have one) to take photos and record videos. Definitely not for someone wanting professional photography. Also annoying that you have to get a memory card if you want to really use it.
