About the Book
A new translation of Ibsen's masterpiece, for a production inspired by Edvard Munch's stage designs for a 1906 Berlin production.Book Synopsis
Oswald returns home from Paris to honour his dead father. As his mother begins to feel the presence of ghosts from the past around her, Oswald discovers that there is more to his mystery illness than he first thought. Only by uncovering the truth can they both be set free. "This is, then, an accomplished Ibsen, and a strong swansong to Unwin's time as artistic director of the Rose...It proves once again just what a skillful director and translator of Ibsen's work Unwin is." - One Stop Arts "Unwin's own translation here is firm and clear, as is his production... he] has the Ibsen credentials to pull it off, and pull it off he has..." - Financial Times "The play, translated by Unwin, lands with a wrenching tragic power." - What's On StageAbout the Author
Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) has been described as 'the father of modern theatre'. Most of his early plays were traditional historical dramas. After Peer Gynt, a fairy-tale fantasy in verse, Ibsen wrote the rest of his plays in prose, and came to be regarded as the great Naturalist dramatist.
