The battery compartment is located on the back of the unit and the cover should slide downward to access the battery bay. If the cover does not move easily, please ensure any protective packaging or tabs have been removed and avoid using excessive force. In some cases, inaccurate readings can be caused by calibration, battery condition, or scanning technique. For best results, place the tool flat against the wall in an area where no stud is present before powering it on, as starting over a stud or other object can affect calibration. We also recommend using a fresh, high-quality alkaline battery and moving the tool slowly and steadily across the wall while scanning. Hello Breanna. We are sorry to hear about your experience with the stud finder. It is frustrating when a tool does not reliably detect studs. Electronic stud finders can sometimes give inconsistent readings if they detect changes in wall density from pipes, wiring, or variations in drywall thickness. Moving the finder too quickly or tilting it while scanning can also cause false readings. We recommend scanning slowly and keeping the device level.
