About this item

Highlights

  • The classic toddler games in HABA's my very first games series have been enjoyed by families for over 30 years. The perfect first game for 1-4 players ages 2 years and up.
  • Forest Friends includes 2 game variations and endless ideas for free-play. Children practice recognizing and naming animals, plants and everything else they can find in the forest. This game encourages observation, vocabulary and language development and memory skills.
  • In the "Hide and Seek" game, players help Mia mouse find her forest friends that are hiding. Land on a tile and try to guess which hole that particular animal is hiding in.
  • If you choose the right hole, you get a wooden star as a reward! If not, you tell the other players what you saw (will they remember when it's their turn?). The game ends when all the stars are gone from the sky. They player who has collected the most stars wins!
  • In the "reading tracks variant", the animal tiles are flipped over, revealing only the animals footprint. Players must figure out which animal that footprint belongs to before looking for it.

Description

There’s so much to discover in the forest! But where are Ronja Deer, Suri Dormouse and the rest of the gang hiding? In two different games, children practice recognizing and naming animals, plants, and everything else they can find in the forest. If a player can keep track of where the forest friends are hiding, Mia Mouse can find her friends again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] While this game is designed for small people, there is not much to it. But the idea is adorable. And, of course, wonderfully made, as everything is from HABA. Everything they design is thought out and well constructed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Cute game for toddler age children. 3d design assembly kept my grandson fascinated by looking for friends in the forest. Game is interactive and can be used in different ways to teach toddlers. Great introduction to following game rules and waiting turns which should be a great benefit as he enters pre-school next year. Since my grandson has a forest theme room he loved the animals and learning the names by visual association. Game is very well made and excellent quality.

Cute Parent Led Game but Difficult to “Spy” Inside

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Forest Friends Game is well made and is extremely cute with all of the drawings on it. There is lots to “explore” and talk about in each of the different scenes. This is definitely a parent led game in that it involves a lot of discussion in order for learning to occur. The questions included in the instruction booklet are extremely helpful as a guide on what to discuss. Mia Mouse, the main character is cute; however, I wish there were a couple other figures that stand up like her to include in the forest. My biggest disappointment with this is that it is next to impossible to spy anything inside the forest by looking through the holes. The instructions do say to play in a bright place; however, at our house in the daytime with the sun streaming in and lights on, it was still hard to see inside. My 2.5 year old ended up taking the starry night sky off of the game to see in, which makes it lose some of the fun of looking through the holes. It became more of a play scene with dropping the different animal cutouts into the various areas of the forest. Although I have not tried putting a spotlight over this game yet, perhaps that would allow for the spy holes work more easily. The only other thing that I was surprised about is that I envisioned this as more of a “hide and seek” game - for example putting different characters like Mia Mouse in different scenes in the the forest and having to find them with memory, etc… Again, something you can do with Mia Mouse, but would be nice if there were a couple other stand up characters as well. Overall, very cute game with all of the illustrations and the concept. It allows for good discussion all well. Biggest challenge at my house even in the daytime is the lighting in order to see inside.

This is a fun interactive game that even our two year old can participate with. It's a fun way for then to learn how other boardgames work. Reading the instructions, waiting your turn, rewards for winning.
