Description

About the Book

"Financial literacy is too often taught as a dry subject, focusing on its own rhetoric and outcomes, not the desires of readers to learn. Happy Ever After: Financial Freedom Isn't a Fairy Tale, from its title to each sub-section of each chapter, focuses on the benefits to the reader, how the information takes them towards financial security and away from worries. Seven chapters teach the vital steps of this journey, with the acronym MISSION, and come with their own fairytale allegory and woodblock style illustration as well as how the reader can use them to get "out of the woods." The acronym MISSION stands for Money, Income, Saving, Spending, Investing, Owning, Now. Each chapter is a crucial step in the journey of understanding the importance of money, how to get it, how saving leads to investing and compounded gains -- and that this can lead to independence. It explains how to move from no understanding of money at all, to achieving the Freedom Formula of 25x your annual spending, building on lessons taught to migrant workers and the author's own daughter, including "The Seven Dollar Millionaire" and how compound investing can be the source of most of the money we save. The world is ageing with very few governments planning properly for retirees to live well. Young people will need to take their finances into their own hands more and more, and yet no one is equipping them to do this. The covid-19 crisis, when it ends, will also show the importance of having an emergency fund and financial security."--

Book Synopsis

Discover how financial freedom - and not fairy tales - is at the heart of your very own Happy Ever After

Did you know you can become a millionaire by saving just $7 a day and investing for 7% returns? Probably not, because financial literacy is a subject that's overlooked by the vast majority of schools and universities, despite its importance to every single person on the planet.

Written initially for a teenage daughter and then turned into a course to train migrant workers, Happy Ever After: Financial Freedom Isn't a Fairy Tale focuses on the fundamentals of understanding money, saving and investing, showing how the "magic" of compound investing can transform tiny initial amounts into genuine wealth. Finally, it shows readers how to achieve the "Freedom Formula" of 25x your annual spending - that can set you free.

Perfect for anyone who hopes to make their future financially brighter than their present, or help their own children avoid mistakes they made, Happy Ever After has a playful tone, featuring a spoiled princess and talking frog, hand-illustrated to help explain some of the trickier ideas that can help change your life.

About the Author

THE SEVEN DOLLAR MILLIONAIRE is a group of financial literacy enthusiasts who make learning about money accessible and engaging. They were quoted in the Financial Times in November 2020 saying "No one thinks about being financially literate per se. But they do want to be financially secure, to not be in debt and misery".

If that's your Happy Ever After, then this book shows how to stop that being a fairy tale, and make it real, starting today.

I bought this for my daughter, because I know she needs this, but I am reading it myself first. In part because I need to talk to her about this stuff, but also want to check I know it all too. You know what? It's ok for the theory, but it's fun. I guess that's the point. There's a lot of finance books out there, but they're not fun. So we don't finishthem. This one's fun.
