A: Don't do it!! They fall apart. The back material sticks to itself and pulls off large chunks, which then allow light to pass through like any other standard cloth curtain. Washed per the instructions, as did another commenter -- all six of ours were ruined on the first wash and now have to be replaced.

A: All six of ours had this happen, very first wash, following all care instructions, and all six have to be replaced because they no longer block light. They should just be honest and label these as not washable. I'd still have bought them, but now I just feel cheated and angry.
