Fans will be spellbound by a fresh retelling of the original film, followed by the all-new sequel that continues the story with the next generation of Salem teens.

Shortly after moving from California to Salem, Massachusetts, Max Dennison finds himself in hot water when he accidentally releases a coven of witches, the Sanderson sisters, from the afterlife. Max, his sister, and his new friends (human and otherwise) must find a way to stop the witches from carrying out their evil plan and remaining on earth to torment Salem for all eternity.

Meh

The first half was great. It explained a few things you may have missed in the movie. The second half was a letdown. They're supposed to be high-school students, but it feels like they're less mature than Dani was. I expected a lot more from the ending.

Sorry not sorry

We started to read this for my book club and it dragged so much. The first half is a re cap. They also explain what happens in the begging of the movie where the little sister gets kidnapped. Which should be a book itself. The best part is the ending( no spoiler) but i felt like this book could have been picked up on part 2. And it would have been decent. Long story short.... wait for the movie.

Horribly written

It’s poorly written my 10 year old could probably do a better job than the author did with this book. I have not even made it through the 3rd chapter yet and I am not sure if I will continue reading this or not.

Just watch the movie again. Don't bother with this book!

Such a disappointment. Don't bother wasting your time or your money. How could they publish this? The Hocus Pocus movie is a classic Halloween movie and this book is such a disgrace!

Hocus Pocus and the generic sequel

So there are technically 3 parts to this. Part one is a little back story of the goings on before the original Sisters are hanged, as well as what happens prior to the event of Halloween night 1993 when the movie takes place. Part two is the story we know and love with a few details here and there that play into the sequel and also connect the first part. Then the sequel begins and thats where the fail hits for me. So after you get through the first hundred and some pages of ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happening in the sequel, the the sisters finally return and then the confusion sets in. A whole lot of nothing. modern technology like cell phones and social media, bullying and trying to wane out the original characters enough to bring this new story to life. The new goal of the witches is beyond lame, sure it could have worked if it wasn't so drawn out, a weird solo song by Mary which was pointless and a final battle that was rushed. In the sequel it was made to feel like the Sandersons went from these iconic Name Brands to harsh generic made for tv characters. And the last chapter was like a made for tv movie setting up for a cheap spinoff tv series which didn't quite make me want to see it or care. In the end I was glad to close the book and put it on a shelf to be forgotten. As a true fan of Hocus Pocus I was left feeling sad and empty. I wanted to read this so bad and flew through the first part, and then crashed and burned as I struggled to care or try and get involved with the weak story of the sequel.
