I actually thought this was pretty awesome. I read some people saying that the story line was bad or was difficult to figure out with additional clues. I completely disagree. It was fun, engaging and I thing the solution to the game absolutely made sense. Was it hard and challenging? Yes. But SO worth it! We love a good challenge!

As a true crime junkie, I'm always looking for games like this where I get to crack the case. My husband and I worked on this case for several hours, and we both really enjoyed it! Great clues, puzzles, etc. and a fun experience. I wanted to set up a bulletin board with yarn connecting the clues, but my husband didn't seem to be THAT into it. 🤣

We love murder mystery games but this one did not provide evidence that made sense for the conclusion. We had fun solving it but the ending was incredibly irritating after the time and money spent.

This makes for a fun activity with a partner or two. The one physical puzzle was fairly easy, but drawing the conclusion took quite a bit of time and argument. I wouldn’t say it’s a clear and direct storyline; imagination was used throughout. Still makes for fun for those who enjoy critical thinking!

I really enjoyed this! I haven’t played other versions yet, but I’m definitely going to. I agree with a previous review in assuming that some players overlooked details that made the solution a bit more concrete. Would i have been more satisfied with a more flushed out solution explanation? Sure. But i don’t believe it was a stretch by any means. You were able to eliminate characters, but had to be strategic and organized to get there! I think it reflects the difficulty of the game assigned.

we love to hunt a killer and was so excited they were at target. we started the game and realized the police report was pages 1 of 3 1 of 3 and 3 of three. so we were missing key information. we utilized the website to figure out most however it would have been beneficial as we couldn't solve

Should’ve read the reviews before purchasing. The storyline made no sense even after reading the solution. Lots of guessing and still wrong. Hands down the worst HAK and comparable brands game.

Not as bad as others say

This one wasn't as bad as the other reviews are claiming it to be. It was actually entertaining piecing the clues together. The lockbox on this game had four numbers instead of three, which helps lend to the 4-star difficulty rating. However, there was one clue that had something very strange going on that misled me in my final answer. ***LIGHT SPOILER BELOW regarding a clue, but not the culprit*** When determining who had which keycard, it made the most sense to assign two cards with consecutive numbers to the same room because that room received two keycards. That ended up not actually being the case, which threw me off. It made absolutely no sense for two unrelated people to have key card numbers that were so similar, nor did it make sense for the two keycards assigned to the same room to have such wildly different numbers. Why have key card numbers that are so similar and not make something out of it? Red herrings are fine but this one was ridiculous.

I’ve played multiple HAK games and this one just misses the mark. It requires a lot more guessing and not a super strong story. If you are interested in a small box, Death at a Dive Bar and Dead Below Deck were much more satisfying.

Fun one-time activity for date night or a party
4 out of 5 stars
Would recommend
jw - 5 months ago
You cannot play this game more than once, so you want to think of it as spending $30 (or however much) on a one-time date night or party activity. With that in mind, it was perfectly good value for the money — my wife and I had at least as much fun as we would have had going to a movie. The reviews that say the solution makes no sense are wrong; I have to assume those people just didn't quite understand how to put the clues together. You definitely want to create a timeline based on all the evidence in the box, as the instructions recommend. You also have to use some common sense, but no wild leaps of logic are required. We got to the right answer within a couple of hours.

Contrary to what some others have said, if you follow the directions of the game and write things down, it’s a fun and mildly challenging game to play with a few friends.

This one was HARD, but after 2 hours, our group of 4 nailed the suspect and came up with the correct story behind the murder. I disagree with the negative reviews; there is a clear murderer and sufficient clues to determine motive. This was the hardest box I’ve done for sure, but all the more satisfying to come up with the correct answer!

It was something new and different for us to try. We typically play strategy board games, and we love murder mystery movies, so we thought this would be fun. It was just okay. The “clues” weren’t that helpful and the storyline was stupid. I’d like to try a different hunt-a-killer game to see if they are all this way, or if it was just this one.

Huge waste of money. This game hardly has any plot to it and the clues aren’t very helpful at all. There are more useless clues than anything. It’s a one time play unless you want to pay $20 a month for them to send you new mysteries to solve.
