This was was frustrating because you truly don’t get concrete evidence of who it is and feel like all that time wasted to essentially guess

Dissapointing
It involves guessing that one character who had the same opportunity as another hadn't done it because someone drugged and half asleep thought they identified the killer outside their room. It's not well thought through.

By far the best Hunt a Killer game
I am blown away by the negative reviews here; y'all must have been playing a different game because this game is the gold standard! This was our first Hunt a Killer game we tried and it got us totally hooked. We've tried 4 of the other games since and NONE can compare to this one! The cipher was challanging and time consuming but it felt amazing when we finally got it. I'm a big true crime fan so I loved piecing all the evidence together for hours. Definetly get this game if you wanna challage yourself and put your true crime knowledge to the test!

Was this play tested?
Choose a different one. This has the feel of poor editing and no play testing. I've played through a number of these and this one is genuinely crap. If you do buy this know that a key word cypher needs you to exclude any repeated characters. Both knowing how to use, identify, and special exceptions of a key word cypher are prices of knowledge you are assumed to have had. Also don't assume a person can see past 10'. Otherwise you'll get it wrong too

Good time had by all
I played this with my teenagers and we had a great time. There were a few spots that we got stuck and I had to look at the online clues to nudge the kids along, but it was a great time for all of us. Took us about 2 hours, and 3 of the 4 got the killer right.

4 Star Difficulty; 1 Star Quality
In a word: lazy. We have played around 10 games from this brand and most of them are decent, but this was by far the worst one. One of the “facts” to determine who the killer is was just incorrect. There is no logical way to determine who the killer is without making huge assumptions. I expected more from a level 4 difficulty so this was a big letdown.

Okay but not the best Hunt a Killer
This one felt like it was missing something. The story line was okay but it just felt mid in comparison to the other Hunt a Killer games we’ve played. One of the puzzles was very difficult for most of the group to understand. One dementional.

My least favorite HAK game
The cipher made no sense. So many clues were hard to follow.

Fun Puzzle
Almost a 1 player game. Took over 2 hours due to a very tough cipher on one letter. 2 pieces of evidence revealed the killer, so the tough cipher wasn't needed. I started with a friend, but finished by myself it took so long. Probably wouldn't be great for a large group due to the intense amount of reading.

Wouldnt reccommend
Papers are FULLY of misprints. One of the “big” puzzles is a key decoder puzzle, something you wouldn’t be able to find out without looking at a hint. But this puzzle makes absolutely no sense. It doesn’t add up to what the puzzle actually is. Like the wrong “gibberish” letters were put in the wrong spot. We spent over 2 hours just on this part only to look up the answer and find that it wasn’t possible to solve correctly. The solution also made no sense. There were 2 characters who had almost the exact same everything but it expected you to know one was over the other

Ok
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My teenagers were not very interested in the game. They said it was too difficult and they didn’t want to read all of the instructions. They prefer games that use a lot of common sense.

Favorite Boardgame
I buy every one of these. My husband and I love them, they’re fun to play, I don’t think they’re too hard, requires thinking and problem solving skills. For board game/mystery/who-dunnit this is a great date night OR night in with friends

Fun and challenging!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I remember seeing ads for Hunt a Killer games years ago, but it was a subscription box. I’m not a fan of subscription services because I’ve always been horrible at canceling them. I was excited to be able to receive this from Influenster to play and give my thoughts on it. My family and I played, and although pretty challenging, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. It was 2 adults, a teen and a pre-teen. It took us just over 2 and a half hours. We used a small whiteboard to organize our thoughts and felt like that was super helpful! I would recommend this game for a great time!

Not worth it
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so excited for this , love board games . This is so difficult and complicated. Re read the instructions 3 or 4 times . It seems like you can only play it once and it’s just so complicated. It’s mostly papers for the clues . We didn’t enjoy it at all .

Fun game for amateur sleuths
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Hunt A Killer Mystery sets up amateur sleuths for hours of intense investigation. All the pieces of evidence are intricate and include physical objects as well as reading material to help solve the crime. It is so cool to sift through the items and see the amount of effort that was put into creating a nuanced investigative experience. Some of the reading material is hard to read as the print is fuzzy and small so I suggest using the QR code in the game’s instruction manual to get a transcript online for those in your group who need assistance (there is also a hint section if you’re stuck). This game is a big time commitment as well as a mental commitment so be ready! I completed it as a duo and it took us over two hours to finish once all was said and done. Make sure to take notes and even mark up the material in the game to get a good mental picture. My group took notes on the side in order to pass the game on to friends because it is a one time play and cannot be played again. It would have been nice to have an alternate option that could be implemented at some point to make the game playable a second time. Influenster sent this product to me in exchange for my honest review.
