About the Book

Louis just can't sit still and everyone keeps telling him he has ants in his pants. In I Have Ants in My Pants, Julia Cook helps normalize the feeling many kids have when they struggle to control their wiggles and provides strategies for improving impulse control.

Book Synopsis

Control your wiggles and be the BOSS of your ants.

In I Have Ants in My Pants, Julia Cook helps normalize the feeling many kids have when they struggle to control their wiggles and provides strategies for improving impulse control.

Some children just can't sit still no matter how hard they try. And Louis is no exception. He accidentally kicks his friend during story time. He can't stand still in the lunch line. And he wiggles in his seat at the movie theater.

Everyone keeps telling him he has ants in his pants, but Louis doesn't see any ants! Louis' mom explains that this means he wiggles a lot, and she teaches him a special tool, the Wiggle Dance.

Wiggle and jiggle.
Jump up and down.
Shake your hands
and turn around.

Take a deep breath.
Scrunch up your nose.
Wobble your knees
and wiggle your toes.

With a little practice and a few helpful tools, Louis learns that he can calm his wiggles and become the boss of the ants in his pants!

Review Quotes

I Have Ants in My Pants by Julia Cook is relatable fun that had my students giggling through my reading of the book. This story tells the tale of a boy who is very wiggly and people keep telling him that he has ants in his pants. He keeps trying to find those ants until his mom finally clues him in that they are talking about his wiggly he is. Love, love, love!

I love the easily relatable story and the tips at the end of the book to help students control their wiggles! A classroom must-read.

This book written by Julia Cook is so fun to read. This would be a great book to read to an entire class to discuss other ways to deal with the wiggles. It would also be good for digital learning to discuss ways that teachers and students can get the wiggles out when being in front of the screen all day. This book made me laugh and it also made me smile.

A must read for kids with ADHD

Sign me up! Put this book in every teacher's classroom library! This book is for every kid with ADHD and their parents. This story is such a positive approach to a discussion about strategies to use in the classroom; personal space, fidget toys, and self-control. This is the book I needed when my son was younger and the book I'll recommend to my school colleagues! Thank you to the National Center for Youth Issues and Julia Cook for this much needed book! Thank you to NetGalley for access to a digital ARC of this book.

A great teaching tool

What a great rhyming story teaching children the meaning behind "ants in your pants" and how to control your wiggles. I think this will really help kids and their parents as they work on learning what it means to sit still.
