A: the tray with the holes goes on top of the one without holes to fill the tray and make the sphere shape. not using them in tandem with each other just makes half circles/leaks onto the bottom tray

A: There's a fill line in the tray, fill it and the top tray will squeeze the excess water out. You'll get perfect spheres.

I love it!
Pour water up to the line in the bottom round tray. Then cover it with the round tray with the holes. It snaps together, but don’t overfill because the extra will shoot out at you. Then cover with the lid. When the ice is ready, open the lid and the top mold and gently tap, slightly twisting to pop the ice balls into the ice storage. Everything snaps together and it doesn’t take up much room in the freezer. The ice is small, but this is just what I needed and it works perfectly.
