Understand the fundamentals of UK employment law and how they apply in the workplace with this dedicated textbook for HR and business students.Book Synopsis
Introduction to Employment Law is a clear, accessible and jargon-free guide to UK employment law and its application in the workplace.
Written specifically for HR and business students, this book provides a thorough grounding in the essentials of employment law. All areas of employment law are addressed, including employment contracts, discrimination, redundancy and the legal duties of both the employer and the employee. This new edition has been updated throughout to cover the latest case law and legal developments including changes to annual leave, areas of family leave including Carer's Leave and developments in discrimination legislation. Assuming no prior knowledge of the UK legal system, this is ideal reading for all those studying the specialist employment law module on the CIPD Associate Diploma. It is also an accessible introduction for Advanced Diploma students and those on general business degrees who need an introduction to UK employment law. This book is packed with pedagogical features to help consolidate learning including tasks, examples, explore further sections, key learning points and a dedicated study skills chapter. Online resources include lecture slides, case studies, weblinks, multiple choice questions and an instructor's manual.Review Quotes
"Kathy Daniels, once again, presents employment law in a succinct, logical and digestible format for the busy HR professional or learner. Following the full employment lifecycle and interspersed with great provocations in the form of 'tasks', the book adds real value for the practitioner trying to understand the law and its influence. My advice to colleagues and students alike: having Kathy Daniels to hand will improve your knowledge, your professional practice and the outcomes for your organization or studies."-- "James Bryan, Executive Director Human Resources & Central Services, Capel Manor College"
"Given we can neither manage people fairly nor well unless we as a minimum are managing lawfully this is a must-read publication for anyone studying the CIPD qualification and for anyone responsible for managing or advising on people management. A veritable page turner for the genre, with a range of tasks being included to embed learning and with a broad range of case law being used to bring the law to life! A comprehensive and highly recommended book."-- "Keith F Watson Chartered FCIPD, Director of 360 HR solutions and Tutor on CIPD and CMI qualifications"
"I have recommended this book to HR and Business students for many years, and the new edition continues to exceed expectations. Its well-organized structure, comprehensive content and practical case studies make it easy to follow and highly relevant. The book effectively aligns with the learning needs and outcomes of employment law modules, making it an invaluable resource for students."-- "Dr Sukhwinder Salh, Senior Lecturer, Aston University"
"This is an excellent book that provides a clear and comprehensive overview of all aspects of employment law. With its practical focus, I would recommend this to anyone studying HRM or looking to further develop their expertise in this area."-- "Helen Bessant, Chartered FCIPD, CIPD Tutor and Chief Moderator"
