Q: The packaging says a refill lasts up to 2 months, but says it only holds 14 days of soiled litter. Can someone explain the difference? Which is it?

A: The refill is a continuous bag that you when it gets full. Meaning that the bag will typically get full around 14 days. But the continue bag lasts about 2 months.

A: Regular trash bags are not made to fit the shape of our pails so it's difficult to confirm if they could work. Litter Genie refills are made with a multi-layer film with odor-locking barrier technology that prevents odor from escaping the pail, plus they are specifically designed fit Litter Genie systems perfectly. Just tuck the trash bag in the cartridge to secure it, and voila! It not as seamless as the branded bags but that's the DIY gamble we take to save some $ :)

A: The cat does not use the Litter Genie. The Litter Genie is for the human to dispose of the cat waste after scooping the litter box. You will still need a litter box and litter for your cat.

When you live in an apartment, you need to contain litter box smell. This contains the smell for weeks at a time. After a few weeks it does start to smell a bit, but it's time to dump everything out and change the litter at that time anyway. I use regular trash bags. Don't waste your money on the refills - trash bags work just as well and are (much) cheaper.

This is an awesome disposal system. This disposal system is perfect for us as we can clean her cat litter more often and have an easier more convenient place to dispose. It was becoming a little harder for me as my cat is a clean freak; this is perfect for me. I store the container in the garage and carry it inside when I’m ready to clean the litter box.

the top isn’t big enough for the scoop to go through so it gets litter and smudges all over the lid. i don’t think the piece of plastic that closes the bag off worked on the litter genie i received because the flies laid eggs inside the genie whilst it should’ve been “sealed”. and because of it not fully sealing, it didn’t conceal any litter smells. also replacement bags are overpriced ($20+) and is the same price as the original product ($20).

I ended up scraping my hand trying to get all the items out. It is cheap and doesn't close all the way (either broken or defective) and didn't work at all. I'm better off just scooping clumps into trash bags and throwing it out. I also don't like how you have to buy overpriced bags becuase normal bags won't work with it.

This product was great, until it stopped working. I have 2 cats and it saved me from having to make daily trips to the garbage can. It prevented odor and I was able to by a cheaper bag refill on Amazon. After a few months, the latch on the front broke, so I can’t use it anymore. Such a bummer!

Already have 2, but just got 2 kittens. Really like the Litter Genie. The more recent models are less solid than the previous ones, and it's difficult to line up the top half with the bottom to latch them together.

I have recommended this to everyone I know with cats. I was getting so frustrated with finding a solution where I wasn’t taking litter out to the garbage every day. Saw this in the store one day and tried it out and just… thank you to the person who came up with this. I have one for each litter box and the bag usually lasts about two/three weeks before needing to be tied off and redone. This is for just one cat between two boxes if that’s helpful. The whole refill lasts about two months? That’s just up to how good I am about tying the knots in the right spot. I think those having issues may be experiencing user error or an actually defective product because this thing is just *chefs kiss*. The opening gets dirty but is easy to clean with a wipe. The smell of the litter is contained as soon as you close the sliding panel. Get this. Get two of them. It’s worth the money for the refills in my opinion. Definitely not a necessity if you’re tight on money, but if you can afford the refills, this is an amazing product.

I like the easy way to store used litter and the steps to cut the bag/ tie it up are fairly easy once you get used to it. The cartridge claims to last up to 2 months per cat, but mine lasted about 2 weeks for one elderly cat, this was with trying minimize the area to tie off used portions. Cat is indifferent to it.

I’m about to buy a third litter genie because it’s still the most convenient thing that I’ve found when scooping litter. However, just know that it breaks easily. On both of the ones I’ve had, the lids have broken off. I recommend replacing after a year or two.

Love it! I'm using a different scoop than the one that came with it. Highly recommend to use zip ties to close off the bags -- makes the bags last longer and is easier than tying a knot. Target refill bags work great. I empty once a week for two cats.
