Each piece features a long looped handle and a smaller handle on the opposite side — perfect for easy cooking and storage — and the cast iron material makes for great heat distribution and retention no matter how you use it.

Q: are these Pre-seasoned ?

submitted by madcap - 8 months ago
  • A: Lodge Cast Iron comes pre-seasoned, this means we have done the first layer for you. Since seasoning is an ongoing process, you will need to rub the cookware with cooking oil before and after each use to help build up additional seasoning layers. Since the pan is new, I would wash with hot water, clean with a nylon bristle brush or non-scratch pad, rinse, hand-dry immediately, and rub the surface with cooking oil. Now the pan is ready to be used or stored.

Cast iron pans work great on all types of stoves (and ovens) if you go in with realistic expectations. They're not lightweight or dishwasher-friendly and they aren't the same "nonstick" as Teflon or its younger cousins. They require occasional seasoning and they must be hand washed and kept free of any water between uses---iron rusts if it's kept wet. If you're willing to deal with a bit less convenience, there's really nothing like food cooked in cast iron. Bonus: They'll last generations. I've enjoyed the same set of Lodge pans for over 25 years.

This item is perfect for baking sourdough bread! I preferred getting this over another Dutch oven as it would be convenient to have two usable cast iron pans. Make sure to season it well! I foresee myself using this for a long time!

Rust spots

1 out of 5 stars
Lisa - 1 year ago, Verified purchaser
I didn't even get to use it. After opening the box and taking them out, I immediately noticed a large rust spot on the pan. How does that even happen? They need better quality control. Unless, it's a matter of they sell a certain " standard", of product to Target? Poor form, if that's the case.

Best Lodge Combo Cooker For Your Money Ever!!!

5 out of 5 stars
Palemoon47 - 2 years ago, Verified purchaser
Because you get a Dutch oven, a 10.25 in frying pan which is also the lid to the Dutch oven, 3.25 in deep 10.25 frying skillet for frying chicken, making soup, boiling noodles or whatever and so much more. I absolutely love this for making my sourdough bread in. It turns it out beautiful & so tasty. It will last a lifetime if you take care of it. Do not forget to season it when it needs it. DO NOT put in dishwasher or leave it water soaking in it. If you care for it it will not rust. Enjoy it, it is worth every penny and more you pay for it! Definitely recommend this always!

I bought this to use for baking sourdough bread. I needed a vessel that could handle high oven temperatures & I was concerned that my enamel cast iron cookware could possibly be damaged if I continued to use it at high temperatures. The Lodge combo cooker was perfect & exactly what I needed.

I love the Lodge Combo Cooker! The skillet piece fits perfectly with the pot without a hint of mismatch. I expect to use it more for bread baking, but that may change with experience. The seasoning it comes with is a bit stippled, and may have things stick to the skillet or the bottom of the pot. Should that be a problem, I've read that you can sand the bottom smooth and reseason.

Versatile + Value

5 out of 5 stars
SouthernNYC_cook - 2 years ago, Verified purchaser
Who needs a 5x to 10x overpriced, enamel-coated Dutch oven when you can have a tried and true, made in USA, cast iron Dutch oven + iron skillet combo?!! I began this purchase wanting an enamel coated cast iron Dutch oven to make stews and bake crusty boule bread. I bought a Lodge enamel coated 6.5 quart Dutch oven because of the reasonable price, but it already had a small chip in the enamel in the box. Reviews mostly agreed that the non-French brands' enameled iron, almost all made in China, pale in comparison to the longstanding metalcraft expertise by the well known French fabricators. But I couldn't justify the exorbitant cost, even on sale, of the French-made brands in my current budget, in spite of rave reviews that their lifetime warranty service rationalized the upfront cost. So, I regrouped and realized, first, that I didn't need such a large-sized pot and that I had always loved working with cast iron skillets and griddles, so I got this 3.5 quart combo. Lodge has upped their game since I last got one of their products by **preseasoning** the cookware! The preseasoning means it's virtually nonstick out of the box, though you still need at least a very light coating of oil or butter for most uses. This 3.5 quart size is fine for most purposes for 2-3 people. So far I have cooked scrambled eggs in the skillet with better performance than most "nonstick" cookware I've ever used. Chicken for tacos and salmon in the deeper pot were fabulous. Yes, the meat and fish stuck to pan a bit but SO easy to clean: Scrape out as much as possible with metal turner/spatula, then fill with water to cover stuck-on food. Heat on stovetop a few minutes, no need to boil, to hydrate and loosen stuck food, then empty water and use non-scratch abrasive sponge and hot water (no soap on cast iron!) to remove the rest and rinse with hot water. With cast iron, I always return to stovetop and heat on low-medium a couple minutes to dry the pan so as to avoid minor rust appearing. Follow Lodge's directions to continue seasoning the pan as needed if food sticks more than you'd like. Yes, I admit that if you're cooking an acidic dish (e.g. high tomato content) you may want something other than cast iron, but I read reviews saying that even tomato-based stews showed little effect of Lodge's cast iron on food flavor. I haven't tested that myself, yet, but I will! Unless the flavor is changed a lot (and I can notice subtle flavor changes), I think it will work fine and hey, most of us need a little more iron in our diet, right?!
