A:Â @Jase - The 8" cast iron skillet cooks great on glass top stoves; however, you may want to contact your stove manufacturer for their recommendations. The size is perfect, just what I wanted. I grew up learning to cook with cast iron pans, especially the chicken fiy pan, breakfast fry pan and the Dutch Oven. These are excellent pans for camping as well! Lodge is a respected Brand for preseasoned cast iron cookware. Caution if you have arthritis you may find this kind of cookware too difficult to manage because of its weight!

It's just as nice as my larger Lodge cast iron skillet, but I will probably use the larger one more often because: 1) Large turner barely has enough room to flip eggs or pancakes which makes it difficult. 2) Maybe it's just my stove burner but the smaller pan handle gets much hotter (being closer to flame) than the larger pan. I would opt for the larger pan for a couple dollars more even if it is heavier and takes two hands to carry!

Great for single cooking. If you are single and need to cook one chicken breast, one fillet, one serving of veggies, etc, it's the perfect size. But if you're cooking for 2, forget about it. Probably a great size for camping (I have yet to do this, but plan on it).
