Authors Lois Bannon, Martha Yancey Carr, and Gwen Anders Edwards have long
been active in restoring Magnolia Mound and presenting its history. Bannon is
the author and coauthor of two books on naturalist John James Audubon,
Handbook of Audubon Prints, published by Pelican.

Beginning with the original land grant of 1786, the authors document both the social and the architectural history of the celebrated structure-- from its origin as a modest settler's house and farm to its later grandeur as a distinctive home situated within an extensive working plantation.
The book also includes an account of the successful struggle by the Foundation for Historical Louisiana-- which keeps the building and grounds open to the public-- to save the house from destruction in 1960.
About the Author
Lois Elmer Bannon has long been an advocate for restoration and preservation of historic pieces, whether they be houses or smaller forms of art. She was active in restoring Magnolia Mound and presenting its history to visitors. She has prepared museum exhibits of James John Audubon's prints and published numerous articles on his work. Ms. Bannon did a large part of the early planning for the State Houses of Louisiana exhibit at Louisianaís Old State Capitol Center for Political and Governmental History. In gratitude for Ms. Bannon's work, and in honor of her accomplishments, the exhibit was dedicated to her.
