I loved this machine in the beginning. We ended up with several after getting them from our baby showers, so we have one in every bedroom. Unfortunately, after months of use, they have started rattling. They are more annoying than helpful most of the time now):

Lasts forever
I got this as a gift for my baby shower in 2019. It is still going very strong and the sound is perfect. I highly recommend. I am slightly worried of it being left on but that’s more me than the product issue. It does not over heat and I have never had an issue.

waste of money
quite possibly the worst noise machine I've used. at this price and size I was expecting a quality speaker with an audio library but it's just an enclosure with a physical fan inside. it would fill the room with an unpleasant plastic smell when it was on and no doubt sent VOCs all over because I would wake up with the worst sinus congestion. the little noise it did make was okay but if you're this desperate, just buy a $10 fan.

The smell you are experiencing is from the newness of the machine and is typically gone in about a week. The Dohm does only create white noise. It does not have any other sounds. 4 years and still going strong!
Our family has used a Dohm in the bedroom hallway about 18hrs a day for the last 4 years. It did start making a rattling noise a few months ago, and our youngest banged it to death today. I unscrewed the lid, cleaned out some dust, twisted the fan bolt back in place, and it works just like it did 4 years ago! Assuming the rattle noise some are complaining about is the loose bolt on top of the fan- VERY easy fix. 3 other families we know have loved it too. It's just enough sound to deaden noises without creating a sleep crutch for our kids. It comes on all our vacations too, and we love it!

The one we received has a rattling noise when on that it is not suppose to have. Our previous one sounds much better. Unfortunately we were bought it for our newborn and were too busy to return it in time to get one that functioned properly.

What is This???
Is this thing a joke? There's no way this is the claimed 64.3 db. Not even close. This will not block out anything and it makes an annoying noise.

Burning smell
I just bought this a couple months ago. Every time I turn it on it smells like burning plastic. I assumed it was the newness of the machine, but after a little research online-I discovered that the smell should have dissipated within a week or so.

Not worth the price!
We forgot our usual white noise machine (that we’ve had for more than 6 years) on a trip and had to buy this without really looking at the reviews. This was great for two nights and now it has an irritating rattle. I wish we’d read reviews and skipped this absurdly expensive, worthless machine.

My best friend!
We can’t live without this! As a family of four, each bedroom has one. We pack them when we travel, and it’s usually first on my packing list. During the summer we sleep with windows open, so it helps block out the sounds of crickets. Definitely needed it you sleep with a companion (human or dog!) who is a loud breather. I’ve had mine for at least two years and it’s still going strong.
